New way of pay

Post by swoosta »

Can anyone tell me what we have found out is true - royal mail want us in the future to pay us only for the hours worked via an electronic clocking on and off with a smart card?

I'm a fairly new starter and it still amazes me that your start and finish time are hand written by you and that the DO trusts its workers to be honest with their working times.

I personally wouldn't have a problem with an electronic clocking in/out procedure where you only get paid for the hours you actually work. The only people I think that would have a problem with this are those that are not belong totally honest with their working times.

Come in early, start work, then at the actual start time go and clock-in?

Any system can be gamed ... We had a manager who used the time you put down for "Time leaving office" to work out if you where claiming "too much" overtime, the end result being people started putting down the time they pushed their York out into the yard to load the van rather than the time they left to go out on delivery!
