VOTE NO!!!! ( For 1.6% Pay rise)

Vote no for this paltry poor poor pay rise, managers unite cma union still in talks and pushing for more, whilst the CWU pec have rolled over and accepted and recommended Royal Mails paltry 1.6% pay offer (disgusting). I am not criticizing as I'm sure CWU tried there best however it is up to members to make sure they vote a resounding NO, and therefor the cwu get the message loud and clear, that thus offer is not good enough!!!!

This 1.6% offer particularly leaves a bitter taste in the mouth as the reports come in over this weekend about Moya Greenes very generous rise that has been rewarded to her.

Like my rep said there are bigger battles on the horizon. Squabbling over 50p in a pay offer will be nothing when it comes to changing terms & conditions and introducing one plan in 2017.

so what level of pay offer percentage would be acceptable to you for a completely no strings attached 1 year deal?

also comparing our pay rise offer to anything managers are trying to negotiate for this year is comparing apples and oranges, managers are having to agree changes we are not, so for hypothetical example we get a 1.6% offer no strings, but managers get 2.5% but have to commit to losing 300 staff, its not correct to then compare the two and say we should get the same level as them when we are not having to do jot all to get it

as for comparing it to moyas, lets look at this a little more closely since 2010 when she came here she has had no pay rise, she is now getting a 13% rise, compared to average postie since 2010 we have had an 11% increase plus 1.6% again takes us well over 12% so compared to 2010 levels both ours and moyas pay increases are very much the same percentage, not saying its the right thing tat she should get that level of increase, but please don't say it leaves a bitter taste as its almost exactly the same level of increase as we have had

I feel anything of around the 2% mark would be reasonable, we are a very profitable and successful company do not forget! any company making over £700m in operating profit is not failing but very successful, there are companies out there that could only dream of such a high level of profit.

anything around 1% - 1.5 again would I feel be adequate as long as it came alongside a shorter working week such as 38 hours. I am not asking for the moon!

I feel that this would be reasonable.

Please tell us more I did not know that the "managers get 2.5% but have to commit to losing 300 staff" tell us more about this, first I have heard.

Where is the 300 coming from, I think that it should be more than this when you look at how many admin and managers there are just standing around in mail centers and offices nowadays and not doind much at all :cuppa :cuppa :cuppa

Managers might have to do something to earn their money, thats the biggest problem facing them, while we are asked to walk further in less time, I'm voting NO, I'm only holding out till October, cashing my shares in, dont care that I've gotta pay tax, then I;m off, RM wont exist in 5 years time.

so 2% works out that less than £100 extra over the year, an extra £1.90 roughly a week less tax and ni works out at an extra £1.25 so in your opinion the difference between a reasonable offer and a discusting offer is £1.25 in your pocket a week

also a 1% plus an hour less per week, ie 12 minutes less per day would only work out around an equivalent of 1.9% increase again not much difference in percentage terms to 1.6% to justify calling 1.6% percent discusting

as for the managers bit, read what I said the clue is "hypothetical" what ever offer they get they are having to jump through hoops, we are not having to jump through any for ours, it's not a fair comparison between us and them

also worth remembering next year rm are going to be pushing us for a big change in our terms, with one wave and possibly pension, It has the potential for a big long term impact, that's the fight where we should be asking for a far bigger increase

So we say no to 1.6% and the business says tough, that's all we're offering, what then?
Do you think the members will take industrial action over the difference between 1.6% and maybe 2%?, how many days of strike action could you take before that extra 0.4% was used up?

Even if you could get the members to vote no ( no chance) and even if you could get the members to the the gate (no chance) and even if you could get royal mail to cave in (no chance) don't you think Royal Mail would love a pointless row by greedy posties over money giving them the perfect excuse to roll in changes to working practices to increase efficiency. The government, Ofcom and the right wing press would practically demand it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Its all over other threads but basically micromanagement of failing units. A new name for "Continual improvement" and "World Class Mailing" but more management driven.
