A couple more questions
1. As a P/T postie (20hrs 4day week), are we payed & required to do our own DtoD's,
2. Is it right we do our, frame, redirections, tie up & delivery in the 5 hrs???. The mech is very rarely completed when I get there.
3. Is it normal that the L/m or Dom locks the o/t sheet away???
Thanks

All depends on your duty structure, each one in a depot will be unique. You have 5 contract hours including your 30 minutes paid meal relief.
What is the delivery span?
Before our Delivery Methods revision, PT staff working 4.5 contract hours five days a week were supposed to come in to full prepped walks that just needed tying down. "Supposed" is the key word, very rarely happened.
If you think you might require more than 5 hours to get everything done, normally you need to see your line manger before going on delivery to say so, stating whether you just want your contract hours or if you are happy to do overtime. They need to authorise your potential overtime, you then confirm how much overtime you did on return to depot (if lino or DOM still there
) or inform them the next day. Free access to overtime sheets was clamped down in my depot over two years ago, despite falsifying claims being a disciplinary offence that could lead to dismissal.

Also doesn't matter if ot sheet is locked away as you would have been given specific authorisation to claim ot on the day generally before you left the office so if it's locked away then no problem just put down what the manager and you had agreed to previously the next day when you see him again

The pro rata means that as they work 20 hours a week they will be getting paid (delivery supplement) roughly half of a full time 39 hour a week duty. But remember, this is a delivery supplement payment and really has nothing to do with door 2 door's.zx135 wrote:what do you mean paid to deliver door to doors pro rata?postie1975 wrote:1 - yes your payed to deliver door to doors pro rataKnobber wrote:A couple more questions

1. yes theyre part of workload, you should be doing a % per day, your question is essentially the same as asking "do i have to deliver recorded items?"
2. it depends on what your delivery lengths are supposedly are, if theyre 4 hour deliveries then you should have enough time to do all that (except the prep mail part) in the 5 hours total. If youre having to prep mail into the frame and thus the duty is taking you over your paid 5 hours then there is clearly a problem here, you then have the choice to do overtime or not, as others have pointed out already.
3. sure it can be "normal" to have overtime sheets protected and have overtime authorised, the general access to sheets is largely irrelevant - the real probem here is if youre doing overtime youre not getting paid for. This would then have to be raised with your union rep.

1. We get paid £10 an hour or so, there is no other payment for door to doors. Whether you are meant to prep them or not depends on your duty structure. Working 5 hrs a day I'd be very surprised if you are meant to prep anything. I'm on 6 hrs a day and not meant to do any prep. You are, or course, meant to deliver door to doors along with the other mail.Knobber wrote:A couple more questions

2. Again, each duty is (potentially) different. If your outdoor span is 2.5 hours, then obviously you'd have time to prep. If, as is likely, it's 3.5 hrs or 4.5 hrs like most after the revision, you'd almost certainly be meant to come in to a fully prepped frame. I'm meant to go in do packets and redirections, pack bags and go. Prep is rarely finished, but this just gives me ammo when arguing against lapsing, cutting off or claiming overtime.
3. Yes it's normal that they will do all in their power to get you to avoid claiming. Just be bold. Say "I did intend doing overtime to complete today but as the overtime book isn't there, I'm going to be working to my time. Which part would you like me to tak eout and which part would you like me to leave?"

1. No. They are part of someones workload not necessarily the OP's. He should be delivering his % per day , yes, but probably not prepping them. That's the job of whoever preps the duty.Postie45 wrote: 1. yes theyre part of workload, you should be doing a % per day, your question is essentially the same as asking "do i have to deliver recorded items?"

Not necessarily. They all have to be done by the end of the week. I've seen people go up to the manager on a wednesday before and said "What's going on, there have been no door to doors prepped yet this week. What do you want me to do?" (Then the over-running procedure starts ...)Postie45 wrote:and if theyre not prepped, the OP doesn't get to not to any d2ds that day, they still have to be done. If that means it will take him over he can book the overtime or cut off.
