Following a number of discussions and the CWU Policy Forum, Royal Mail and the CWU met in Bournemouth, to discuss the development of key strategic principles and how best we can build up a mutual vision for the future, so our people can understand the benefits and rationale for change.

Having both developed thinking independently on how best to move forward, Royal Mail and the CWU were able to consider each other’s views and approaches, and work together to find a mutually beneficial way forward.

Both parties re-affirmed their commitment to our agreements and the principles laid out in the Agenda for Growth, and are committed to ensuring they are deployed consistently. This will include a focus on developing the mutual interest culture in the workplace.

We have agreed to continue to develop our forward agenda and reach agreements on the many aspects of our strategy going forward.

Royal Mail and the CWU both saw this as an excellent opportunity to renew our commitment to each other and the future success and prosperity of our business and our employees.

We are clear that the best possible way forward is to continue to develop ideas, agreements and proposals together, at pace, to ensure we have a joint vision for the business that is mutually deliverable.

A joint communication from Sue Whalley, Chief Operations Officer, and Terry Pullinger, CWU Deputy General Secretary (Postal), has been developed to provide colleagues with an update on the Bournemouth meeting and next steps.

Of course it should just reflect the wishes of the workforce - but that's not reality.
