2d barcodes

so when are wew getting more time added to our contract s to aide in this 2d barcode fiasco?

since its inception we have been gradually seeing a increase in 2d barcodes and the troubles we all encounter with them.

smudged barcodes not scanning, spending 1-2 minutes on a customers doorstep trying to scan these items, then evetually giving in or by a miracle it actually scans ......

so when are we going to see bigger contract lengths and getting paid appropriately for the extra time these 2d barcodes are taking?

as these items will only increase as it has in our offfice since its inception i think we are in the 3-4th week now and the 2d scans are almost 10 fold now.

I don't mind scanning every parcel but as the op said where does the time come from. We have been doing this for about a month or 2 and it adds time and does not run smoothly.where are the union on this ?

I find that some PDAs will just not scan the 2D barcodes at all. I try scanning my first few and if they won't scan, then I don't bother the rest of the day. If I'm lucky and get a PDA that does scan them, I try to scan them all and it doesn't really take any longer. We have to scan most things now anyway with all the Amazon delivery scanned and all the Chinese packets that need a signature

It all adds time, just wait for them pushing D2N on items with 2D barcodes like they do with tracked items etc. They must think we can pluck extra time from out of no-where

If you were finishing your duty on time before 2d then it will take you over that is a fact.

No because if you were finishing on time before, then you can continue to do so using the overrunning deliveries procedure. What it means is that you have the same time, but will do less delivery work because of 2d scanning. Whether you decide to work over, or not hasn't changed, just that there are more processes to do within the time allotted.

According to the Ofcom report published today Royal mail has been told that it has to continue to offer a standard USO letter and small packet without tracking, to ensure that the competitors can use the lack of RM tracking as a way to compete by offering a tracked service RM can not.

Royal Mails plans for tracking every parcel with the 2D codes looks set to be compromised, unless small packets were not included in the free tracking offer RM recently published.

Of course it does. You used to scan 20 items now you scan 80 (or whatever). How can it not take more time? You have to get out your PDA, wake it up, click click click get it into delivery mode, beep beep beep trying to scan, click done then cancel then options then lock screen and put it away again, then pick up the packet and bundle. . . all that takes time.

Apparently knocking on every door on a street to get rid of a parcel takes no extra time either, according to management and our union...

I don't lock my PDA, that's just a waste of time and they have a habit of not waking up when you do lock them. And I scan things while I'm walking. It really doesn't take long

New PDAs have a flux capacitor fitted so you can time travel back and complete on time with all the extra scans. It also helps with deliver to neighbour.

sorry, but you cannot scan/read address while you walking..
