To the idiot who hijacked my post, are you a manager? One of these brown nosed, incompetent idiots who couldn't wipe their own arse before asking higher management what to do? I'm honest and pissed off with the s**t I've gone through. After being sacked I've got my full uniform, my badge and a s**t load of dibs, none of which will be used but could cause confusion anywhere. It absolutely shocking what this company is doing. Bullying is the core of it now and thanks to Cameron and his cronies you can't fight it.
I'd Advise any new member to join the CWU and.not get talked out if it but do t try and do it online as is doesn't bloody work!
Oh and the stories I could tell .....

Mistakes happen. How many postman on here have forgot or don't bother to apply their handbrake while waiting at a zebra crossing or a set of traffic lights? If a car should hit you and pushes you into a member of the public you would lose your job. Even though a car has hit you. Now getting back to the postman in question. He made a mistake, didn't injure anyone and reported it to management . The damage was minimal. Didn't kill or hurt anyone and lost his job as a consequence. I feel very sorry for him we've all done stupid things that could have cost us our jobs. I believe they used this incident to sack him because they wanted him out. Could be his sickness record, could be he did the job by the book, could be he upset the manager in question, or simply that his face didn't fit. Whatever happened to dignity, respect and FAIRNESS ! Royal Mail will say they treat every case in its own merits. But the case is there must be dozens of incidents where accidents are caused by posties driving vans but how many lose their jobs? Unless of course they want you out. You have 3 months to take it to an industrial tribunal. I would suggest trying to find a no win no fee solicitors , or even setting up a go fund me site to rase the money. Don't know how many people use this site , but I'm sure all it will take is a couple of quid from each one to rase your money. Put the link on here and I will start it off with £10. Give a brief account of how it happened , how much you need, and keep everyone informed on the progress. And try not to lose you temper. Good luck.

This is very good advice. I too would chuck a tenner in.

Thanks guys just when I was beginning to loose faith you've put a smile on my face with this idea. If I do set up a go fund me and win, any money donated will go in to the Roland Hill fund and if not enough to cut through the Tory red tape of having to find £1200 just to take an employer to a tribunal then the money will still go into the same pot.

Same here, I would be happy to chuck a tenner in.
While you're about it, as you are probably not the first to do this, I would do a trawl and find out about previous incidents which did not incur a sacking instead where counselling and retraining was applied, which I would imagine is mandatory. another get out card I would suggest is that sometimes managements do not always do their team briefs, have you got evidence that they haven't done a safety brief on handbrake safety and had it signed off, the ET is not interested in the right and wrongs of the case, they are more concerned if procedures have been followed or not, this also includes your dismissal interview, do you have any witness to this who is prepared to take the stand.
It would have been better to be in the union in the first place, its no too late, you can approach the rep in your office and ask about joining and empathise that is a a common cause as it can affect anyone else in the future and you could set a precedence, you may get support that way and the fact you still have your uniform and badges may be significant.
Good luck

I did rell them it was for a common cause but they wasn't interested. I've tried to re-join many times since I was advised to leave when I started by F/T but the form doesn't work on mobile devices. And for the three people who said they would chuck in a tenner, thanks but I think there's not much point as £30 is a long way off the £950 I would still need (already paid £250 my self on unions advice to go for it). If going off that as testing the water in would I get much support I think I'm flogging a dead horse, but again thanks for the thought.
Good luck you guys who drive as I think it's a nail in the coffin. But if you've got one of the old contracts where it doesn't say you need driving, I'd vote with your feet and tell them where to shove their vans cause you paid for your licence, not them then they won't have you by your short and curlies!

You're talking like you think there's been some sort of vendetta against you, but surely you realise that even though your actions were unintended, you're still far from blameless?
Using the handbrake is basic driving skills.
