Resign end of seniority ?
Can anyone sort this one out. We're having a resign where the rep is not allowing us to sign for the duty we want, meaning the seniority is being lost. We have shared vans & we have all been working like this for years, we have had two drivers on each van in lots of cases so we can alternate the weeks driving if we wish without any problems. Now this new resign all of a sudden we can't sign for a walk if were a driver, even though there's more walks than walkers & even more drivers than drives. The rep has already stated that at the bottom end of the resign drivers will have to fill walks as there's more drivers than drives.... So why can't we sign for a walk, like we have done for years & years ?? If I can't sign for the walk I want because I'm a driver, a walker much further down the seniority list will get my choice of round, making seniority redundant. I'd like to know where I stand as I have to pick tomorrow.... Anyone??

For me it's just the future of Royal Mail.
We are going through another revision whereby a majority of our van share jobs are being made PT with the FT prepping both jobs while everyone else on single van or HCT duties sort the IPS.
We'll have FT with 10+ years service becoming reserves while the new PT staff brought in from Xmas will be able to sign for the new PT dutys

Yeah we have that too with FT prep PT, but there's quite a few rounds where BOTH are FT & we want to team up, but the rep has said drivers can't sign for walks, which is crazy as drivers WILL sign for walks at the end of the signing, so why not at the beginning. If there wasn't enough walks for non drivers or not enough drivers for drives id totally understand, but there's plenty of both, so why are they doing this ???

Been waiting since January for the re pick in my office! Doesn't look like there will be one because the lads on the afternoon jobs have had to go on delivery & they have picked what they wanted! Jobs for the boys!

Firstly has the resign been divided into duties incl. driving and duties for walks only. Because drivers will be receiving a driving supplement as opposed to a walking duty where the may be a pay variance then rep may be safeguarding your income and I am assuming that you although OPG you would be downgrading from driver to walker. However as these jobs are not classified as specialist posts in accordance with the way forward agreement 2000 and a resign where all duties are available for signing then picking should be on a seniority basis and if you wish to sign for a duty ( walk) earning you less money then that is your choice. As you get nearer to finalising the resign you could have a situation where you have a majority of drivers left to fill walking duties and these drivers would still be retaining their driving allowance while signing for a walk. On the other hand you could have the other scenario where you had only driving duties to pick and a surplus of non-drivers then they would have to be trained on driving RM vehicles.iistuii wrote:Can anyone sort this one out. You may be right and I am wrong but isn't there a scale of driving rates for driving different types of vehicles from escorts, crewbuses, transits etc. although this may not apply in the delivery section, If there is no difference in pay between driving duties and non-driving duties then by the original posting can't see why by using seniority sign for a walk.

Plus, the "training" for driving a RM vehicle consists of driving around for a few hours, there is no failing it. I'm not sure about other offices, but at mine pretty much everyone is van assessed

Well when or if we have a resign i will be removing myself from driving if i'm not aloud to pick on seniority.
If there's no seniority on a resign then there's no seniority on annual leave you can't have it both way's.

There's no seniority on annual leave anyway as the use of seniority for annual leave isn't allowedbigbazza wrote:Well when or if we have a resign i will be removing myself from driving if i'm not aloud to pick on seniority.

We've had people threatened with being moved to other offices if they withdraw their licence.Postie45 wrote:does anyone know the rules for withdrawing your driving services for royal mail and just be a walker ? can this be done ?
I did the resign at my office nearly 4 years ago and the duties were put up on the board as driver and walker with maps so everyone knew what area/roads they were doing.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

We had a guy who decided that he didn't want to be driving anymore, when the annual license checks came round he kept 'forgetting' to bring his in, so he was taken of driving.Postie45 wrote:does anyone know the rules for withdrawing your driving services for royal mail and just be a walker ? can this be done ?
Guy: I don't want to be a driver
DOM: You have to. Bring in your license
Guy: But I don't want to drive
DOM: Bring in your license or we'll take you off driving.

Got in touch with area rep who phoned our rep & reminded him how seniority worked & now we can sign for what we want. Got there eventually, however we shouldn't have to fight our own rep when he should be helping us not the management..
