Election material payment
Hi
Can somebody finally clarify what is the nationwide payment for election materials?
In our office we always get 3p/item and we multiply amount of delivery calls on particular duty by 1.5 instead of counting every item as some houdeholds get more than one.
I came accross on this forum people saying they get 4.5p or even 6p/item.
When I mentioned it to people in the office they were very surprised that other offices might get more than us.
Manager confirmed that all offices in UK get 3p/item.

4) Payments
All existing local payments covering the delivery of election material as stated in
paragraph 2 above will remain in place, and in accordance with this agreement, with the
following exceptions.
1. The minimum payment for delivering election material will be 3p per item.
2. The maximum payment for delivering election material will be 6.6p per item.
3. All hours based schemes will be converted to pence per item schemes and then the
criteria in 1 and 2 above will be applied. Where delivery offices have introduced a SDD
revision since the last delivery of election material then the following formula will be
applied prior to the criteria in 1 and 2 above being applied.
Previous no. Walks X O/T hours per walk e.g. 35 X 2 hrs hours = 3.5hrs
Current no. of Walks 20
4. In those Units where there are two payments e.g. 4.5p for the first three parties and
1.67p for additional parties the minimum payment will become 3p with any payments over
this amount being retained.
5. In those Units where there is a mixture of hours and pence per item based payments
the process in 4) 3. above will be followed for the hours based element, with the process
in 4) 4. above then being applied.
Where election material items exceed 20g in weight a further 0.5p will be payable.
These revised payments apply from the date of this agreement and cover all election
material as identified above. They are payable on an individual basis, and are not affected
by any collective criteria/responsibility.

The whole debacle is ridiculous, not just the differing payments. Who gets the payment, is doing them compulsory and the whole overtime saga, is just stupid. I can't believe Royal Mail and the CWU endorse what is going on. Came up with the idea in fact.buntin wrote:yep , we have this ridiculous situation where some offices get more / less than others .
Spare a thought for the part timer (who never does any prep or sorting) having to COUNT 100's of the things, against his wishes, prep them deliver them, never knowing if he'll get paid, or even if he'll get what he's rightfully earned doing his normal workload as he had the temerity to spend time on election material during his working day.

Your manager lied, unsurprisingly. It is negotiated at a local level.bogues2009 wrote:Hi

Agree with every word. It is nothing short of farcical.NewPostieUK wrote:The whole debacle is ridiculous, not just the differing payments. Scratch that. Make it 1000's. We have to cancel stamps, save fuel, work all our paid hours, make a pair of trousers last two years, yet we have to waste time counting poll cards? Really? A huge business like Royal Mail can't come up with anything better than that? They weren't even walksorted.NewPostieUK wrote: having to COUNT 100's of the things, against his wishes

We submitted a form at the end of the week ie Saturday, with columns indicating how many (polling cards or election material) we delivered on each day, then
a total column to work out what we are due in terms of beer chits (number of items x payment per item).
We've been told we should get paid (fingers crossed) in next weeks pay.

My manager told me we don't get paid for delivering polling cards as they count as normal mail.

Asked our union rep why we get paid only 3p per item and other offices up to 6.6p..he said it is in a local agreement which was signed before he came and difficult to change..he said also our office is not that bad as we get paid 3p for unaddressed and 6p for addressed..I was very surprised as never heard of 6p while I ve been here for last 10years..Nobody I asked in our office NEVER claimed more than 3p per item..asked him while people in our office dont claim more as agreement permits, he replied:'Not sure,mate'(sic!)....!!!!
What is going on?! Where all that surplus money went?!
