are these the true figures? we are hearing from RM they are down 33% to 267 million. unite says the true figure is 742 million hence they are asking for a bigger rise. one lad said at work today 'they can't falsify the figures anymore because we are on the stock market now'...yet another said of course they can. they just dress it up to misrepresent the real income, 'creative accountancy' its called. they put out all sorts of bullshine to give a dire view of the true profit. or cooking the books as we know it. any views?

As I understand it 117m was paid out in evr and about 3500 people left the company. So factor that in and the transformation costs then going forward they should have more room for profit in what is a massive revenue of about 9 billion if I've read it right.

There are different figures which meant different things - So in essence both are right, it all depends what you want to use the figures for:

Operating profit before transformation costs £742 million
Operating profit after transformation costs £551 million
Profit before tax £267 million

These 3 figures and many more are available at royal-mail-plc-full-year-results-2015-16

Operating Profit = Revenue less the cost of goods sold, labor, and other day-to-day expenses incurred in the normal course of business

Profit before tax is more complicated but it includes depreciation and any amortisation of assets. They are both just accounting entries not reflecting cash – so can be used as an approximation for cash flow by investors.

Definition of amortisation
The practice of reducing the value of assets to reflect their reduced worth over time. The term means the same as depreciation, though in practice amortisation tends to be used for the write-off of intangible assets, such as goodwill, while either term is used for the write-off of fixed capital.

Thats not a bonus, that's the Dividend on the shares you hold. 832 shares @ 15.1p = £125.63

(this years dividend are 22.1 of which we got 7p per share £58 for a FT in Jan)

Its great news that we made a decent profit (operating or otherwise)

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that the figures get fiddled. My mate is a top accountant at a big company...however he works in a department where everybody counts!! :Very Happy
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

You hear from time to time that we are paid too much, but for me I think we get paid about the right amount.we all know here what the job now involves and it's a lot of work.i feel like I've earned every penny every day with all the pain and stressful stuff we put up with.and don't get me wrong I can put up with it but I do find it insulting that after walking 15 miles a day each week and dealing with the other nonsense in all weathers that I'm paid too much.ok rant over
