triple lapsing

All this week we have been under instruction to complete triple lapsing,our union rep has put in a disagreement, just wondered if any other office has had this put to them.

The bottom line is, if you have time to do 1,2,3 or however many bits of lapsing within your contracted hours (minus meal relief), then there is no problem....

If you feel that the workload would put you over your finishing time and you have no desire to do overtime, then calmly ask the manager what he advises. Don't argue with him if he says it can be done. Don't debate it. Again repeat that you are of the opinion that it is not doable and as such require his advice on what he wants done, be it a phone call to confirm you will be bringing back, or leaving part of your own delivery or lapsing. Remain calm and composed and continue to insist that you will do as is reasonably instructed, but that you wish to finish on your time.

I don't even know what triple lapsing is. Is it when you say 'no' three times? Or is it three days a week? We are asked on a tuesday but we don't always have the time.

He can't 'instruct you to complete lapsing' but he can ask you to do anything he wants.

We don't have lapsing yet,but I think it will be soon thanks to the folk who come in hours early,run round then get back to the office early,so many stupid people in one place.

I totally agree with yer if you do the job properly and you dont have time by the way we don't

, but its not just down to them clowns ,mr bob Gibson is also to blame as he agreed to this all year lapsing with the powers above at r/m but it doesn't matter to him as he doesnt have to go through the daily arguments over this , before p&l we use to do 12 weeks 3 days a week (3.5hr deliverys) , after p&l we do 48 weeks 6 days a week (6+ hr deliverys ) they also took 4 dutys out the office as well and they are still trying to push lapsing as well .

It can be double , treble , quadruple lapsing, doesn't matter . If it means going over your time you just cut off more of your OWN round

I could'nt give a monkeys if they brought in quadruple/quintuple or even 6 lots. you do whatever takes you to your time. then either bring it back or don't take the extra out. simples.

We lapse one, two, three or four frames depending on the supposed mail volume for any given day.

That's if a manager even comes into the office, the workplace coach says there is lapsing and all he gets is, your not a manager and everyone leaves it

Instead of blaming people , please recognise that Royal Mail demanded in 2007 that people work all their paid for hours. The CWU could not on one hand demand more pay but say we support people finishing early and not working their hours.

The concern is some 9 years later some on here do not actually understand the pay and mod agreement in regards to absorption and resourcing. This includes

1 absorption can only take place where there is spare capacity.

2. Absorption should not make an individual go past their time or cut off.

3. Absorption should not take place if this means the prep for the part timer does not get done.

4. There should be no ad hoc absorption on the day.

5. Resourcing meetings should take 2 weeks in advance.

6. No individual should be taken off their own walk to create absorption unless agreed by the rep.

If any of the above are not being adhered too your rep can use the IR framework.

The reality is that Royal Mail do believe that individuals finish early on certain days. This is why they intend to introduce Production Control which similar to the RFID scanners , these will ensure all OPGs clock in and out not just at the start and end of the day but after every task IPS , prep and meal relief etc. The new PDA trails have shown that the mapping of individuals on walks will assist Royal Mail to offering Predict to customers in the next 12 months which will mean a 15 minute window for delivery to customers.

How do you stop coming back early if you don't have sufficient work to take you to the end of your contracted hours?

Not a situation I have had to deal with. Even on Tuesdays I'm booking minimum of 15 mins OT.
