No.
The maximum penalty under the conduct code is 2 years.
5 years is ridiculous.

no maximum for suspened dismissal is 2 years, are you sure it was a suspened dismissal and not a serious warning or major offence warning? as that can last 5 years in cases of dishonesty

for it to be something that lasts 5 years dishonesty must have been a factor so if that was the punishment they are very lucky to still have any job with RM

Yes I'm sure as it is me who was given this penalty. I have been found guilty of intentional delay which has been made up, its gone to appeal now!

in that case you have a cast iron case for the punishment to be reviewed, though you may find it only drops to a 2 year one, worth double checking the actual wording again as there's no such charge as intentional delay of mail either, the charge is probably wilful delay

5 year suspended dismissal??

Maximum for dishonesty is 36 months.
Major penalties Suspended dismissal The period should be clearly specified in the range of 12 to 24 months (up to 36 months in cases of dishonesty); with it clearly set out that any further serious breach of the Conduct Policy during that time could result in dismissal
Also under the `new` conduct the charges are: Unintentional Delay
Unexcused Delay
Intentional Delay.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09

They have now lowered it to two years with no explanation (it was a DSM who came up with the 5 years). Got to love RM!!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
