What do you get for 20 years service apart from the six weeks. I seem to remember you got some vouchers in the past.
Is this still the case?

Just a badge I believe and no vouchers. You get a meal out with fellow long service achievers though. Wouldn't put it past RM to choose McDonalds.paulwbc wrote:What do you get for 20 years service apart from the six weeks. I seem to remember you got some vouchers in the past.

You only get vouchers (£100 down from £150) when you get to 30 years.

it used to be 80 quid but they stopped it once it became privatised. I don't think you even get the paid for meal anymore now either.

I will tell you exactly what you get for 20 years service having just received mine.. A presentation box ( that says on the front " we take pride in recognising " )that includes a silver coloured tie pin that says "Royal Mail" on it below a crown. Two cards, one thanking you for your service with your name on it and another card congratulating you on reaching a significant milestone. ( both bearing the name of Moya Greene.. ) and your holiday entitlement updated to six full weeks...That's it.

I remember when I got my 10 year service award.
A pen and a plastic paperweight. The paperweight went straight in the bin and the pen fell apart after a week of use lol.

So, if you were alternatively employed, say flipping burgers, stacking shelves or pulling pints, what would those employers give you for twenty years?

Probably more recognition of the working man than you and your ilk do.Tman wrote:So, if you were alternatively employed, say flipping burgers, stacking shelves or pulling pints, what would those employers give you for twenty years?

I know some might say, well why should you expect to get anything for achieving a long service milestone but for me it is all down, however small part it may seem, to help keep staff morale up. God knows I never think it could get lower, but it does year after year. A couple of years ago I was quite looking forward to my 30th milestone. I knew I'd get a decent amount of vouchers or one of those 'experience' thingies they used to do, plus a meal out if I wanted. Now, after they have slashed the vouchers down to a paltry £100 (just a £3.33 a year) I'm thinking what's the point? I wonder how much managers get for their milestones? I remember when my Dad got to 25 years as a warehouse worker at the Co-op he got an engraved carriage clock to recognise his long service. What do RM give you? A lump of plastic. Says it all.....

Gone are the days when you used to get an Imperial Service Medal when RM was GPO, only the Civil service now gets it and you still had to be recommended for it as it's not automatic 25 years undiscovered crime. Many years ago in some firms you used to get a pocket watch or a carriage clock to mark 25 years of work, the world today is very different.
