Can someone help? Is there a time limit of someone holding an SA who does NOT actually do it? For example, a SA holder is now an acting line manager and been so for 6 months. His SA is being allocated adhoc on overtime on a weekly basis.

I don't suppose it's any different to an acting manager picking an OPG's duty with no real intention of ever doing it.

As he was the SA holder this is a contract and with conditions if unable to complete the SA duty he is duty bound to find a replacement to cover the SA therefore if unable to fulfil the SA he has to advise the bookroom who is covering his SA duty for that week and they are paid the SA rate and not on basic overtime rate. SA are normally valid for 1 year and should then be re-advertised.

In our office no one is an sa holder, it's a free for all, you just put your name against the sa you want to do that week then get paid the sa rate, but once you've put your name down you are responsible to either do it or find someone to cover it. Is that not how it's done then, doesn't surprise me as we seem to do it our own way with most things?

We do a resign of SA duties on a regular basis, most of ours are late collections and UTR. Works well, everyone knows what they are doing, we also don't make holder have to find cover when on rota week or on leave though.

Once again it seems that each office has its own way of operating and nothing wrong with that provided no one is impostioned when completing the SA. In relation to the free for all scenario that could lead to this being removed without 1 month notice, placed to ad-hoc overtime rate at anytime and not included within holiday payment that a SA holder would enjoy but it does allow this to be available for all staff and not one single person so it has benefits.
