Rep and his mates ok ,screw everyone else

Our Rep has done nothing but look after himself and his mates since getting elected, I was hoping all members would get fairly treated, Im thinking of leaving the "union" its got so bad.

As you have stated in your post he was elected through a majority vote unless he was unopposed at the time. If you feel that he does not have the interests of all members then you can take your complaint to the area/divisional rep giving details of your grievance. If he has just been elected then he will hold this position for a period of 2 years. If he went through unopposed then it seems that no one in your office wished to take the responsibility of taking the union rep job.

I think this is something the CWU should look at.
Nobody should be allowed to hold "elected" office unless they were actually elected.
Being allowed to hold the post because nobody wants it is ridiculous in a democratic union.
Even if there is no opposition there should still be a ballot so people can decide if they want that person or not as their rep.
They pay their subs they should be allowed a say.

I think every rep should face a vote of confidence once a year.
It could be a real confidence boost for good reps to know that the office stands behind them and a real incentive to engage with the whole office. The days when members were fooled by the lie that a bad rep is better than none are long gone.

Agree with that ... but of course maybe members should face a vote.

We changed Rep a few months ago. Last Rep was not bad . New Rep settling in .

But the bottom line will always be member support (oh missus!!!)

I get distressed (annoyed) to see the attitude of members (OPG's). Self serving nonsense ; ignore the rules and regs and f**k over everyone you can!!!

Until that attitude changes , then nothing will change and of course the overall situation goes downhill.

I only have 5 years to go . I pity the ones coming after

Mind you the next 5 years will be 'pants'

You and your colleagues are the union. Just because someone is elected by a majority does not make them untouchable. If your concerns are shared by a number of your colleagues, then contact area rep and discuss the procedure for a potential vote of no confidence.

Sounds like our place. We had van sharing introduced and two rounds were struggling to get finished. He didn't help with their issue, but as soon as the union rep got one of those rounds he made sure he had his own van and even had work taken off the round. Even though he is no longer rep it seems he is untouchable and 'in' with the management.
