What are the CWU aiming for re pay rise?

I would be interested to know what the CWU are aiming for in terms of a pay rise, so we could decide if they (we) have been anywhere near successful in the negotiations.
It's easy to come out after the event and claim to have been successful and struck a good deal on behalf of the members but unless we knew beforehand what the goals where, how will we know if any successes were made?

It would be a bit like a poker player having to show you what they had in their hand so you could tell if they were bluffing or not.
Why don't RM tell us what their best offer is going to be?

You don't sell your car by telling any prospective buyer exactly how much you'll settle for.and you don't buy a car by telling the seller exactly how much you have in your pocket.Both sides always start the negotiations with a big fat lie.

In the old days when we were publicly owned the business would usually make its lie open because they benefit from looking flexible and it's easier to sell a deal if it looks like the union has "won". This is new territory for both parties though, shareholders will not want to see a union "win" whether it's fabricated or not. They will expect to see very few concessions without a guaranteed payback in lower costs and greater efficiency.

Fair enough and understood. Well what is the big fat lie that the CWU went in with? We know Royal Mails.

I doubt it's true but I was told the union asked for 6%.

If they did, I expect the directors/negotiators or whoever pissed themselves laughing.

Two different things. Dave is speaking about a new deal for all workers in the UK.

Royal Mail have not yet made an open offer and the CWU did not go in based on 6%. That is nonsense.

At the moment Royal Mail's offer has not increased the pay bill it is just using old legacy money.

This is a complex set of negotiations, the more the union wants for a one year pay deal will mean that Royal Mail wants more strings.

The reason why the CWU want a one year deal is that there will be longer more detailed negotiations on one wave OMP , Royal Mail's strategy , Production control , pensions and obviously the union's policy of having a 35 gross working week with no loss of pay by 2020.
