a change to start time/shift rotation

Post by themailman »

Does anyone know what % of an office is required to vote 'yes' to allow a major change to shift patterns/starting times. Yes, I know, RM will do what they want eventually, but we have been promised an input into it.
Surely a narrow 'yes' vote (just over 50%) is going to cause chaos, plus will be easily enough to achieve by promising things that enough people will either approve of, or believe will actually be delivered.

When 33 1/3 % have been affected by business driven change then this is classed as a major change and would implement a full resign. Employees whose duty have not been affected then they can opt out of the resign if they so wish or place their duty in the resign pot in the hope that they get a better duty. Employees who have not held their duty for 12 months will not take part in the resign unless their has been a change to their duty and it bears no resemblance when it was signed for.
The resign would also have to take into consideration for duties that have been ring fenced to accommodate employees covered by the DDA/ Equality Act.

I was wondering if someone could elaborate on the duty holder being able to opt out of a resign if their job has not been changed?

Ring-fenced duty = smart employee that has found a way to bypass the seniority ladder

However, once the re-pick has gone there are still many other ways to net a good round. Like the worker who gets a "fixed" duty because he runs round and does everyone else's lapsing. Or the worker who is so superhumanly slow and lazy that he leaves mail/post nearly everyday, the managers were almost forced to give him an easier duty!

They were both creative in their approach. The first one does loads of overtime which means he finishes at normal shift time and has still managed to do 2 hours of 'ghost' overtime; whilst the second, knew that the Union would protect him from performance requirements because he was older and his legs were always tired. As you can imagine they both got a bit of stick/support from the guys for different reasons. Their duties should have been advertised for everyone to apply for but managers just took the easy way out.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
