Delivering first time, every time, is key to our success. Customers are more likely to stay with us if we deliver first time.

Dedicated efforts by the team at Rotherham delivery office have seen them achieve and maintain a first time delivery rate of 99 per cent for 12 months, for Tracked items.

‘Keeping our customers happy and satisfied is our number one priority. The whole team has taken great pride in improving the customer experience throughout the year, especially our frontline colleagues’ said Kevin Reynolds, Rotherham delivery office manager.

Regular communication within the team keeps first time delivery front of mind for everyone. Performance is recorded on a chart for everyone to see and colleagues discuss any issues daily. Issues are then addressed by a workplace coach.

Christopher Briggs, our quality and customer business partner for South & West Yorkshire, said the team has done an ‘outstanding job’.

He said: ‘It’s not about doing anything extraordinary, but about making sure our already effective standards are embedded every day.’

Best practice

There are a few simple steps you can take to boost first time delivery rate.

Do:

Leave enough time for the customer to come to the door
Attempt Delivery to Neighbour if your customer is not in
Use local knowledge and look for signs that a neighbour is in such as music playing, windows open, or a car in the driveway
Follow any Safeplace instructions on RM Tracked 24/48 items
Complete a ‘With your Neighbour’ slip and return it to the original recipient’s address

Don’t:

Leave mail where it’s not safe and secure
Leave mail or a parcel sticking out of a letterbox
Deliver to a customer or neighbour who is displaying an opt-out sticker
Attempt Delivery to Neighbour for Special Deliveries and Inbound International Signed For items

Aye, we have lots of spare time to do all of the "Do's".

Bottom line, I will deliver EVERYTHING first time 100% of the time, if that is what they want.... as long as they are ok, with me bringing back the remainder of my uncompleted delivery for my finishing time. Until then, I will continue as I always have.

For that office to achieve those results, 1 or more of a number of things must have happened.

1) deliveries were revised to take in to account extra time taken in order to deliver to neighbour (highly unlikely)

2) OT from extended delivery is through the roof (quite likely)

3) bullying and intimidation not only from management but from the WPC's, with everyone's performance fully on display, resulting in OPG's working OT without claiming. Who wants to be the worst performer? (Very likely)

4) OPG's taking risks and shortcuts in order to not find themselves on the 'naughty list' displayed in full to the office, such as doorstepping and leaving in areas which ordinarily no one would consider a 'safe place' (Very likely)

5) I have read stories that some managers instruct staff to select 'safe place' even if the item is P739'd and returned to a sub-office or delivery office, thereby falsifying their performance figures. (Fairly unlikely, but wouldn't rule it out)

I think my DOM is trying to achieve that for my office. We are getting bribed with a certain brand of Chocolate Bar if we don't bring back more than 2 Tracked a week. Could'nt make it up

I couldn't achieve 99% for a week no matter how hard I try and try I do. I will not doorstep no matter how much pressure is put upon me, if nobody is home and there is nobody at home next door it is coming back.

Rumours going round from a good source are threats of industrial action there and surrounding areas due to b&h.
did hear of tracked parcels been left anywhere and/or safeplace been clicked when a card left to collect, though technically in the D/O it is a safeplace.
Either way,truth or lies in the rumours, is it actually possible to maintain a 99% success rate over 12 months for an entire office?

Driving our standards down to the likes of hermes etc. Well done royal mail, as long as the figures stack up, who cares if parcels get wet/go missing......actually, I do, so I employ my policy of ' treat parcels like you would want your own treating'. Can't get rid safely, bring em back.

Official instructions on parcels is to try a neighbour either side or opposite. Then follow the safe place instructions on the parcel, if any. If not then you p739 the parcel and return it to office. Royal Mail has seen in rise in complaints about door stepping. Just ask your manager to give you permission in writing, to door step, then you know the answer.

Don't they have OPT OUTS in Rotherham ??
3% of my round have Opt outs so could never achieve that score even as everyone knows its bollox.
Are they delivering the tracked anyway even if the person doesn't want them delivered to a neighbour.
Must be to do with the DOM's bonus

Is it Fry's chocolate cream? I wouldn't even consider it for anything else.
You have been very coy about the brand. Is it to do with not wishing to give them any free advertising?
