how long to avoid a stage 1

Have recently had a run of bad luck with health, have had 3 absences from work in quick succession. I'm aware 1 more will trigger a stage 1 warning. How long do I have to go to be clear of these absences?

It's a rolling 12 month period, once you clear 12 months from your 1st absence that is no longer counted, clear 12 months from your 2nd and that is no longer counted etc. If you find yourself issued a stage 1 you clear that after 6 months assuming you meet the standards.

Also, it is not just the amount of ansences, if you had one absence of 14 days, that would trigger a stage one review. Three absences or 13 days in total and you get away with it.

thanks for the replies. There's a lot of confusion in our office over this. I'm sure I heard the policy changed and absences were now calculated during a 6 month period then wiped clean after 6 months clear. Or is it just the stage warnings that are cleared after 6 months? If I have to go 12 months to clear these absences It's going to be a long 12 months, better keep my fingers crossed ...

Stage warnings are cleared after 6 months. After you get a stage one they are different standards. The 4 absences or 13 days are the 1st stage, Think if you are on a stage one it is 10 days or 2 absences trigger a stage 2, could be wrong on that, never had one of those.

You have to go 12 months from the last absence to clear all three. The first is cleared 12 months later, 2nd 12 months later etc.

right, that's it....can't get sick for 12 months then.....or I can, but will have to struggle into work with it. This has made me realise how easy it is to lose your job over sickness, it only takes a run of bad luck and you can struggle to get off the procedure.

You wouldn't loose your job if you get a stage one and as I said, you clear that after 6 months, I have never known anyone be sacked on their first stage 3 where you are considered for the sack. Other people may though.

I don't understand the procedure fully - so if OP went to Stage One due to another absence next week he would be back to zero with 'no absences on his record' 6months later? So he would then need another 14day/4 absences before going back to Stage One?

No any absence within 12 months is counted in the procedure. So it is quite possible to clear a stage, but get put back on it if you breach the 4 absences or 14 days within 12 months.
