There is no national rule on what is or isn't included or how long you get, every duty in every office has the potential to be different, to find out what your own duty includes check your duty 318, every duty has one though your manager may not be keen on them being seen so may not have even printed it off so if you can't see it get your rep to insist manager has it printed off

Thanks for the reply, my issue is with who should be putting up the packets. My argument is that it should be done and I do redirections, d2d, gone away and 10 min break all within 50 mins. My despatch time is 9.50.

As ZX135 says there is no hard and fast rule on what duties "should" include. The Duty Builder (I think it's called) is used to plan the duties during revisions and that may indicate what's expected. However, in the end, if a manager tells you to do something related to your job as an OPG, it is a reasonable request and it would be hard to fight with any chance of winning. All you can do to make any changes is to stick to the book on everything both inside and outside. If you can't complete then use the overrunning procedure. A squeaky wheel always gets the attention.

Great advice, I think the underlying issue is the full-time guys not following the plan properly and disappearing to their own frame as my walks have 2 part time guys on it.

on average in our DO,
a 6 hour PT will throw in their mech ( all ips will be prepped ) and do their packets, redirections, bundle up and deliver.
a 5 hour pt should come into a fully prepped frame, do their packets, redirections, bundle up and deliver.

no hard and fast rules like said before, but this is what normally happens where I work.

Mines goes like this:
9.00 - 9.30 = packets, redirections, gone aways, sort missiets, tie down etc.
9.30 - 10.00 = break
10.00 - 10.10 = van check / load van
10.10 - 10.15 = travel time to duty
10.15 - 2.30 = delivery
2.30 - 2.35 = travel to office
2.35 - 2.40 = pouch off.

This is specific to my office though, you will probably have a different 318.

I prep a duty one day a week as a new part of my duty (i have too much time, apparently). I do everything except packets and re-directions. The reason I don't do the packets is that everyone has their own preferred way. Some like the letters turned, some like to scribble 'P' on the back, some like small packets included in the bundle, some like to tie up different to the way the frame is laid out, some do the loops out of order, the driver (in a pair) decides to take some of the smaller packets as they're going there (or next door).

There's lots of reasons. I think that some people just need to accept more responsibility for their own job. If it causes you to go over or get out late, follow the correct procedure.

My DIM said that 318s dont exist when i asked exactly what is expected of me. Have to prep all d2ds, do redirections, parcels, tie down. I said if theres no 318s then how can anyone know what is in their duty. Last mini revision done on back of a fag packet by the brown nosers looking after themselves and not actually looking at tasks and times. Bunch of f*ds. Shame cos I actually like my job but hate the poor management.

He is talking balls, rm use a computer program called rcs to control budget, to set up the number of hours in the office, AWD (authorised working duties) a computer program called duty builder is used, the information that is put into complete the duty builder is the info for the 318 which the duty builder program can print out with the press of a button, no duty builder means no AWD which means no rcs which is how the whole budget is controlled from

I think they dont want to produce it cos they know these tasks are not included in my dury and theyd fall on the full timers who would throw their rattles out the pram and cos more trouble. Ive given up the fight for justice and just claim o/t accordingly. Have to say too that my cwu rep didnt really help all that much but he's always there to listen to my moans.

not wanting to produce it is a different issue to saying it doesn't exist and you have highlighted the reason why perfectly, unfortunately the only real way to fight this issue is not actually to claim overtime which can be hard for part timers as it helps with their income but is to cut off and then the extra work is thrown up for one of those brown nosing part timers to do, causes a little bad feeling for a while but does generally sort things it's just having the balls to do it that's the problem

All Van Share part timers in my office are 30 hrs, 6hrs a day.

They are meant to come in to a fully prepped frame. Whether this prep includes packets isn't clear. Door to Doors definitely are included and never prepped by part timers.

They come in, sort packets do redirections etc bundle up and load van. maybe having a break if they want one.

Often some full timers who prep will leave a pile to be prepped. Manager is always told when this happens, and overtime or cutting off usually follows.

Each duty has a file called a 'Walklog' which has information about whats meant to be done, but as usual the workload isn't realistic (I have 25 mins to do something that usually takes nearly an hour).

Then he needs to be very, very careful. That is taking live mail home, which we are most definitely not allowed to do. :no no
