Scanning 2D barcodes

According to the courier all 2D barcodes are to be scanned on all mail/parcels from the 4th April.

No one in our office has heard this from management. Is this a mail centre thing or are we on delivery to do this also?

With all the extra scanning I can't see the PDA's lasting too long.

yes weve been told to start on Monday but our pda's are flat after the first loop, struggling to scan collection on delivery, very poor help off the management on this , no chance to scan all these pkts too. what happens when you leave a p739 do you have to type in the barcode that's comes onto the pda after scanning or is it just an option off delivered/not delivered ?

It's hard enough getting a PDA with a battery which lasts more than an hour, without the fun of having to scan 2d barcodes on parcels & letters.

And for the ones with badly printed labels, there are way to many digits to type in!

We've been aware of these 2D barcodes in our office for the last few days...

Been trying to get in the habit of scanning them. The slightest crinkle however seems to make them completely unscannable and the vast majority of them without a code to input as an alternative... Well done RM

We were supposed to be getting the new scanners in october last year, has anyone got them yet? The current brick like ones we have at the moment are a joke compared to our rivals. And then they wonder why we always score a low mark on 'the equipment you use to do your job' in have your say.

Again we bring in something that's supposed to help the business without the proper equipment to use it.no extra panning value for it I would guess and any problems will of course be our fault.

Will RM know if you haven't scan a parcel with 2D Barcodes ? I mean it is not tracked or special delivery.

Very doubtful. I don't think they are scanned into the office anyway. Probably will only be flagged up if one goes missing

Have the Mail Centres not been issued with these finger scanners for parcels ? , all the data is on the code ( address , post code etc) so it will be easy to flag up if you don't scan them on delivery the same way as Tracked , after all it's only a bit of software.

Personally I think it's more a data gathering excersize so RM can sell the data in the same way they do Post Codes.

We've been scanning these barcodes since beginning of December. The slightest crease in the barcode makes it impossible to scan. The management advice on this; try turning the PDA into different orientations to attempt to scan the barcode. Needless to say, this doesn't work either.

We have been scanning them as well. The ones that are printed clearly take barely any time, and indeed the 2d barcodes register quicker than the 1d ones - it also brings up the 2d barcode number as well so I have been scanning them instead.

When it's not 1d barcoded only had a few not register even when moving the red line around. In those cases I did nothing just delivered it - will await managerial guidance now we will be doing it as a Group-wide thing soon.

I've been scanning them for ages just to get into the habit of it, quite a few don't scan. I just hand them over. If we get grief for it I shall leave a p739 for any that won't scan and they managers can deal with the irate customers who come in to pick them up.
