From Monday 4 April, all correctly barcoded parcels must be scanned on delivery.

Scanning on the doorstep is part of our operations strategy to win in parcels. It will help us stay number one.

Competition in the parcels market is tough. Our competitors track all their parcels on delivery already, which means we can’t afford not to.

The data from 2D barcodes will also help us manage our business better. For example, we will be able to get paid fairly for our services and gather data about our parcels including volumes, weight, size and location. Over time, we will make this scanning information available to our customers.

Your PDA

We have updated the software on your existing PDA to enable it to read 2D barcodes, in addition to 1D. As we begin to deploy the new PDAs, they can also read 2D barcodes.

Posters and guides have been sent to your office. If you have not received your guide, please speak to your manager now.

ive noticed that sometimes the print outs of the 2d barcodes seem to have been done on a home printer and can be very faded and the scanner wont scan them. The problem is theres no alternative code that ive seen on these types that can be manually inputted, so what do we do under these circumstances ?

If you're anything like me then you start swearing at the parcel and have a good mind to tell the sender to sort theirselves out. But then cease to care once the day is over:D

In all seriousness though, we haven't had anything about this in our office yet. I've seen this now so personally I will be scanning all the barcodes I see, but there hasn't been a peep about it from our managers and I imagine many other offices are the same. So I think we can safely expect a WTL video in a few weeks complaining about how many people aren't scanning barcodes!

We have been told to note down the address of any packet with a barcode that we are not able to scan.

More delaying tactics, especilly when the code is creased or slightly smudged, it wont scan the fu cking thing, what the, ?, take a fu cking photo of the thing ?, is there enough hours in the day.

Again bringing in something without a proper plan for things that could go wrong outdoors.and as has been said where is the time coming from for this.

Its a great idea as some of these 2D barcodes can also send SMS messages direct to the customers phone rather than via the website - when the item has been scanned and delivered.

I just hope they print these barcodes big and visible enough for us to spot them!!

Not saying it's not a good idea for the business but as with everything else we need the time built in properly for it.in my view what will happen is they will say it takes no extra time dispose is scanning an extra 60-100 parcels more a day than we scan now and then they will wonder why more are claiming or cutting off. My question is does anybody think this will take less time

I am not taking a photo of the thing, unless Royal Mail supply me with a mobile phone.

If the item will go through the letter box then scanning it takes seconds. An extra 60 scans would add approx. 3 minutes.
If they need to come to the door for the packet, then you have time to scan it anyway.
I have been scanning everything all week. It isn't a big deal.

Do you have the new pda's or the older ones because ours barely last past the second bag power wise.that's if we get two pda's so what happens then if there isn't a code to write down on an e-pod card
