IHR: how long before you can work?

Post by paulthepostie »

Good morning,

As a few of you are fully aware i have just left on IHR. I am still currently awaiting shares and holiday pay but my leaving date was on the 18th.

I have been in touch with a few people in the line of work and it is probably unlikely i will be in work for anywhere between 3 to six months, maybe longer, due to the nature of what is involved.

If i was extremely lucky and was offered a job, could i work for someone else straight away?. ?I am not sure if there are any conditions regarding this, and i didn't think about this side of things.

The work i am hoping to get into will be sedentary and office based, compared to when i was a postman thankfully.

Thanks guys for your help as always.

don't think there is anything stopping you starting a new job the day after you left rm.

Could be wrong but I seem to recall something about 9 months or you have to pay it back? Is there no paperwork that you were given? It should be in that? :hmmmm

Thank you both for replying, i really appreciate it. The only paperwork i have is what i signed saying when the money would be paid in.

As i say it is very unlikely as what i was going to do you need to train in and once its all done and if you do well then you can be offered work, which can take up to three months all in.

I just wondered if anyone on here has left on ihr and knows the conditions.

Thanks once again

There is nothing stopping you from getting another job. But if you want to come back to RM I think within 2 years, you will have to pay some of it back, on a pro rata basis.

HI, nothing stopping you from working due to the fact that you was unable to continue with the job at royal mail and they was unable to find you something for you to do that would of kept you in employment

You have left RM employment the cause of which is ill-health retirement and granted by RM who have made their decision that your medical condition you will be unable to return to your normal duty and basically unfit to carry out duties that are required of you by RM. This does not STOP you from applying for alternative employment after your RM leaving date and there is no recourse of clawback on the sum received unless as previously stated you returned to RM.

If you can show there is a slight chance of returning for example light duties, then you won't be considered for IHR.

If i remember rightly, my paperwork says that you are incapable of carrying out your duties for the future and that is around 9 months. Also all options need to be exhausted for treatment to.

Hope that helps.
