Why won't my office open on Sundays?

We've had a sizeable backlog of big packets (200+) left in the office on Saturday about three weeks running now (including the Sat. before mothers day). Staff have volunteered to come in on Sunday, yet the bosses turn down the idea. I think it's the DSM or higher that makes the call.

1) What's the problem with us working Sundays? The hourly rate is only marginally more.
2) Is it not in the businesses interest to deliver people's items in a timely manner? Packets left on yorks for 3+ days is not uncommon any more.

I've heard talks of offices being open on Sundays soon enough...

No doubt it's a "business decision" .... remember - the customer comes last these days .....

Few lower contracts at ours would be all over it but f/t & most p/t would just laugh without any acceptable o/t rate (same with weekday to be fair)
Wouldnt this open up to the on going case for lost hours for holidays?
