Hello chaps,
Its been a while since I made a post so here goes, looking for a little advice been out the loop a long time now.

I am on a shared van duty ,recently I asked to see the Bsi figures for my own walk.

So now I have that figure lets say for arguments sake its 77% number of calls 537 thats everything mail, packets, heavy and large.

I have now taken to counting my empty slots to gain what my actuall daily BSi is ,it is averaging out everyday between 4-6% over there actual my worst day it has been 12% over

I take my findings to my rep whilst the DIM is present and im told it wont be that high as a percentage will be deducted off my actuall due to my buddy beat ( I hope that just hasnt confused everyone) possibly having less mail although it has 200 more calls and a lower BSi than my walk .

So my argument is the DIMS BSi bible shows each individual walks estimated BSi it does not show a combined. How on earth can you show that the BSi rate is off but then be told no, no that will come down due to the other walk.

Its a case of moving the goal posts when you can clearly demostrate the BSi is wrong .If its wrong on one duty its wrong on them all.

Is this the correct procedure by DIM and Rep . Is there an agreement I can pointed towards .Please dont tell me the CWU has agreed a combined BSi.

Cheers Chaps

Did you include 20% of D2Ds when counting?

If you did and the count is still wrong, get some colleagues to do a count and see if it's across the office.

If it's across the office, go back to your rep with the evidence, if he won't do anything go above him to the area rep.

Thinking about it, I'm not certain if call rates are set across the office or each delivery has it's own. Anyone clarify that?

Would reflect reality if there were different call rates for each delivery, but this is Royal Mail and we all know how that works.

call rates only matter when a revision is being done, it is used to help calculated the outdoor span of each duty, after that on a day to day basis the call rate doesn't matter, if it's a heavy day it's a heavy day regardless of going to 90 or 95 percent of doors, the over running deliveries procedure is the same regardless

Spartacus I did take my finds to the rep and I was told twice to go away by him and I was the rep in the same office for four years before he took over, and im not sure how much support would come from the branch either .

Zx Royal mail ( in our office anyway) are using these figures to tell posties who have 20 to 30 years plus service they are not up to the job,so in my eyes these call rate figures do matter even after a revision.

What on earth has happened to the CWU no fight ,no support, no back bone.

Thanks for the advice chaps and bear this post in mind as this will happen in your office at some time in the future.

if you think the figures matter and need to argue over them with the DOM then your fighting the wrong fight, you should not be arguing over whether its a 70% or 90% call rate etc you should simply be fighting the use of these completely unagreed figures, there is only one agreed efficiency measure for OPG and that is the one minute sort test, anything else is unagreed and any attempt to use anything should lead to a disagreement by the rep that will stop it, and if the rep isnt going to do it then simply go above him

I think that I disagree with you; in that one of the determining factors in the revision process is call rate. Make the call rate low and the 'width' of the walk is bigger. (other factors are involved as well ; but to me call rate is very important.

However ; it does matter what the call rate is when out on delivery. Call rate set at 80% ; then walk is X size. Call rate set at 90% then walk is Y size.

The overrunning procedure is always the same .

That's my point that last bit, regardless of the call rate, the cutting off procedure is the same, you don't need to justify why you can't complete, you simply say "I can't complete on time I will have x amount of mail left, how do you want to deal with it?"

I truly believe the fight has been lost, were now being told no rulings. Its now a case of ok I shall bring back what I cant finish.

Our DIMS come in at 05.30 to sort the heavy and large, prepp walks and even tie up duties.

It is an utter disgrace how deliveries are now run,and its not just Royal Mail thats been irresponsible here ,it is also the CWUs fault.

Why agree to a model week well below your average knowing that the figure chosen will only result in failure or the good will of the staff to work over every day.

Everyone Involved in our revision knows exactly were the problem lies BUT not one of them will address the white elephant in the room, and that white elephant in the room goes all the way back to the model week they chose.

Then just compound matters a touch more lets give them a call rate lower than what they actually have.

Forgive if I am wrong but I thought if you disagreed during a revision you went to disagreement has this now changed

Are Royal Mail now handed everything on a silver platter do the CWU not argue the toss on anything or am i just having a bad office rep experience.

I think the CWU hierachy have lost touch with the very people there supposidly representing the very people that put them in the job.

Its like a political party thats lost touch with its voters it happens from time to time but i can remember when the CWU had teeth.

Our whole office feels total abandonment we feel theres no one helping us fight ,and what were all talking about is pulling out the union as a whole.

I know its drastic but make no bones about it down at CWU HQ are office would be flashing like a big red beacon then they would come .

Who knows were just a pissed off office banging our heads against a brick wall.

Rant over thanks chaps

So has this been answered? I heard from a colleague that the "call rate", or doors you deliver mail (no packets?) To is 75% of you're total number of calls.
If by example, my walk has 200 calls, RM'S "normal" working day should see me deliver to 150 doors. Is this true? Or does each duty have a different rate?
Or is it completely false? I read above that no such thing exists (in my understanding)

Each duty will have a different rate each day - obviously. However, when the planners/managers organise a revision they should select a Base call rate (ours is 83%) for the whole office, and then an average attendance rate for each duty.

Call rate - No interaction with residents.
Attendance Rate = Knocks on Doors for any reason.
