Union rep leaving in 2 weeks while a revision is taking place
Are union rep is leaving in 2 weeks and it's been known for a long time right when revision is taking place which will leave us with no rep and I feel will leave is very vulnerable will the area rep step in or will we be left with no rep

The Area Delivery Rep should take over if not I'd complain to your Branch and if not satisfied I'd call Bob Gibson's dept at CWU HQ

Union rep leaving in 2 weeks while a revision is taking place
If it's been known for a long time that your Rep is leaving, why haven't you or any of your colleagues put your names forward to take over?
Or be the sub Rep?
Or ask this question ages ago?
i.e. when you first knew the Rep would be leaving.
As per usual, it seems everybody wants the benefit(s) of a Rep in the unit, but want somebody else to do it.

I don't think a unit rep is too important if you are having a major revision.
He probably won't understand half of what is going on and the bean counters who really control the whole process will ignore him anyway.
The Area Rep will have far more influence assuming they are on the ball.

our area rep told everyone he was going on 3 weeks leave turns out he had actually taken evr and that was only recently. so how do you plan for that.UnhappyGremlin wrote:If it's been known for a long time that your Rep is leaving, why haven't you or any of your colleagues put your names forward to take over?

You don't say whether that's a positive influence or not?motherhubbard wrote:The Area Rep will have far more influence assuming they are on the ball.
Anyway I thought the whole point of local agreements was that you could avoid having some useless lazy full release hero making decisions about a unit he doesn't know or care about.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Instead you get a useless lazy part time release hero making decisions etc.fishtank wrote:..... you could avoid having some useless lazy full release hero making decisions about a unit he doesn't know or care about.
If there were genuine local agreements we would all be on 4 day weeks with 2 hour delivery spans. (which of course we might be soon but without the full time contract)

I have to disagree with you there. The local rep is on the ground at all times, who do you think opg will go to when they have a problem, the rep who is in the office or the Area Rep who might be able to get there a couple of times a month.motherhubbard wrote:I don't think a unit rep is too important if you are having a major revision.

Both myself and sub rep were glad to have the ADR at the end of the phone, but for the bulk of the revision we did the work with the DOM and anyone else who tried to butt in.
Not sure if you've done a revision lately, but the local rep has a lot of influence on what happens.
As I say above, I'd rather rely on a local rep than the area rep, when dealing with local issues.

That wasn't the question/point raised by the OP.aiden01 wrote:our area rep told everyone he was going on 3 weeks leave turns out he had actually taken evr and that was only recently. so how do you plan for that.UnhappyGremlin wrote:If it's been known for a long time that your Rep is leaving, why haven't you or any of your colleagues put your names forward to take over?

This is completely unacceptable, and doesn't allow for contingencies, unless there is a Sub Area Rep in place.
I'd start by contacting branch and asking for an explanation and go from there. And ask that someone from branch take on the role whilst they arrange for nominations for and elections to the post.
Assuming anyone is interested.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

There is a sub rep in place but its the sneakiness way the rep took evr that has upset a lot of members. why not just let people know he was going.UnhappyGremlin wrote:That wasn't the question/point raised by the OP.aiden01 wrote:our area rep told everyone he was going on 3 weeks leave turns out he had actually taken evr and that was only recently. so how do you plan for that.UnhappyGremlin wrote:If it's been known for a long time that your Rep is leaving, why haven't you or any of your colleagues put your names forward to take over?

I wouldn't do it.
I guess he/she must have had their reasons.
Though I can't think of one that would excuse should a behaviour.
I have had members in my unit moan about me.
I tell them straight.
If you're not happy with what I do, I'll quit.
But, I'll give 4 weeks notice for you to replace me.
Never been taken up on it.
