Anyone beat 18 failures ?

Post by Mezza »

My DO has regularly failed the odd 9am Special here and there but this week has seen us hit new lows.

I had 4 Sd items for the same uncovered duty yesterday (I'm RLE), i allocated them to a driver, who as usual swore his head off and said he would leave them on his shelf and do them later if he had the time. Now that's a regualr thing with this driver and he usually comes back and takes them out for delivery.
Yesterday however he came back to the office about 12.30, finished for the day and went home. I should add he finishes early every day and making 2 hrs is about the norm as his duty has lost more and more bits over the years due to shared vans etc.

So today the same duty was lapsed and i was told to take the SD items off it and give them to a driver.
i also had other duties in the same situation - resulting in a total of about 40 uncovered SD items.

I allocated what i could which included 17 items for the same driver as yesterday (4 items being left from yesterday), again the swearing at having more work to do and left on the shelf.
I told the DOm i had a total of 24 uncovered SD items left and 2 collections.
The DOM and lono went out on delivery, covering about half a duty and took 6 of the specials with them and a collection.

Leaving 18 uncovered SD items and a collection.

They were all still sitting there when i left to go home at 14.30.
The driver once again finished about 12.30 today.
About 50% of the office were all done by 1.30 today.
I've never known such a shambles.

I could report it, but the DOm should get pulled up for it anyway.
Plus anything i have reported in the past has fallen on deaf ears and still carries on.

Wonder if we can beat 18 before something is done?

How can you fail a collection??

That's a sure fire way to lose a customer who's spending £££'s to have a collection plus all the revenue the mail generates.

Doms fault for letting him leave them behind on the shelf....if I were you I would give them to him and refuse to take them back and for him to explain to the DOM, just so it covers the blame from your end

I thought if Specials (Or a letterbox) weren't scanned/delivered the s**t was automatically transmitted up the line (and then back down on your head)?

We have the odd Special being delivered outside the 13.00 time slot but how the hell does an Office Fail that many without any comeback? :hmmmm

I would have thought your DOM would have received a very Shitty phone call from his Boss! :thumbup

Jesus, we would have been crucified for that. We're regularly understaffed, but we absolutely always get the specials done.

If your office really did fail 18 specials your boss will know about it, his boss will know about it, even Moya will know about it and your place will be pulled apart by suits.

All of your posts have one thing in common Mezza, they all involve you slagging your colleagues off.

Yes we really did fail 4 SD's Wednesday and a total of 18 SD's yesterday + 1 box collection.

As far as slagging off my colleagues is concerned - i can easily see how you would draw that conclusion - however it is management, or rather lack of it, that i point the finger at. For letting staff get away with these things.

In response to other points - Our RLE locker is not a secure office in any way. I have to cover the callers meal break at 09.30 every day and usually most of the SD items are still in the RLE awaiting collection from the various duties for delivery as well as their PDA's and van keys etc.
I used to lock the door and go into the callers but became frustrated at the number of OPG's coming into the callers to ask for their stuff and having to tell them to find a manager - only to then go back to my office after the meal break cover and find my office door propped open and people helping themselves to their stuff.
Numerous complaints to management and even through 'just say' and IB, yet it carried on and on - so i prop the door myself nowadays.
Also, all items returned to office as P739 are handed into the callers office directly and not the RLE as they should be (Our DOMS idea to avoid any loss of iotems between the 2 offices (1 item in 11 years). That means in order for staff to return their PDA's to the charging cabinet and put their keys away they need to be able to access the RLE (from 12.30 each day i am in the callers assisting scanning and booking items into stock.
I pointed out to management, just say and IB that if i am not in the RLE to receive 739 items then on Saturdays in particular there are items in my office on retention, as well as kill offs awaiting process, customs charges etc and if i could not be responsible for them at the end of day then i should not be assumed responsible at anytime of day.

I have tried repeatedly to get the correct procedures implemented without any joy whatsoever. It really is head against a brick wall.

There is the reason for anyone leaving Sd items behind.

Our DOM was called to the MC today - at short notice - i can only assume these failures had something to do with it.

The delivery staff run my DO, certainly not the management - if staff don;t want to do anything they don't and management don't have the balls to stand up to them.

We still have at least 3 staff and 3-6 line managers from other offices coming in each day to cover deliveries caused by sick abscence - they are often loading up as staff are going home anything up to 2 hrs early. Or, even waiting for vans to get back so they can then go out :arrrghhh

Yes i'm peed off at having to work my full hours till 2 or 2.30 each day whilst delivery staff go home early - but as said - it's not the staff i'm peed off with it's management for allowing it all to happen.

lastly - the 18 Sd's from yesterday were all delivered today.
But 2 Sd's were undelivered and also another box collection today - i pointed out to our DOm that 1 of the Sd's was for a firm so would not go till Monday now and the box collection would be the same - even after his MC meting - nothing was done.

How is it possible staff are going home early when you have deliveries to cover? Everyone should work their hrs. This is a money making business now which has to stand on its own two feet. If I were paying someone to do a job at my house and they were going home early when there was still work to do I'd be pretty pxxed off like most, I would imagine. It's a disgrace.

Following on from last weeks fiasco.
Last week
Weds 4 Sd's failed
Thurs 18 Sd's failed and 2 box collections.
Friday 2 Sd's failed and 1 box collection.

This week
Weds 9 Sd's failed and 1 box collection.

That's a total of 33 failed Sd items in a week.
DOM was called to an urgent meeting at the MC Friday - i had hoped it would have been in connection with last weeks failures and that he would have learnt.
It appears not.
And yes, staff are still going home from around 12.30.

Add to that lot that my day off was yesterday - SPS went down nationwide with the IE11 upgrade failing. DOM couldn't be bothered to ring IT despite many requests from callers duty.
I went in today to find my RLE duty had only been covered in so far as Sd's received and allocated.
All office redirections from yesterday left in a huge pile.
All kill off from callers piled high on my desk.
A collection pouch with mail still in it on my desk.
All office missorts still in pigeon holes on IPS sorting frames.

All above things that i have to do on a daily basis and form a part of my duty.

And yet i still spent 2 hrs on the phone to IT today to get SPS running (only for internet to then go down - booked 3 packets from MOnday in and not even started on yesterday when i went home at 13.55 having had no meal break).

Grievance being prepared and will be lodged before the week is out.

I think you should be careful what you post, you are putting sensitive information onto a public forum, you could be easily recognised if all that is true and find your arse booted swiftly out of the door.

That's a sorry state of affairs. We very rarely fail specials in my office. Sometimes it can't be avoided of course, but we're usually pretty good with it.

On that topic, has anyone actually been pulled up for failing a special? I've failed a few in my time (HCT duty, not really viable to cut off to go deliver a special, locker staff and DOMs aren't fussed when I tell them this in the morning) but I've never been pulled up on it. I can only assume that means none of the customers on my duty have ever complained about it. Of course I tell the customer (on the very rare occasion that they are actually in when I call) that they have the right to claim back for it if ever I get there late with a special

Technically speaking, the "customer" you tell that to has no right to claim anything from Royal Mail. They can of course complain to the sender of the item, who in turn can make a claim.
