Called in for attendance interview whilst sick
I am on the fourth day of my first sick absence for 18 months and have received a letter from our office inviting me in for an interview tomorrow to discus my absence. As im suffering from a rather nasty virus and feel pretty rough do i have to attend?

No, you and your manager should have agreed the nature and how often you contact each other when you first phoned in sick. Give em a ring tomorrow and tell em when you think you might be back to work, and if necessary AGREE when the next contact will be. The letter is trying to intimidate you back to work.

Yeah last time I was off they wanted me to come in on for a meeting, said I was too ill and stayed in bed instead. Nowt said when I returned to work a couple of days later.

• Employees will advise of their absence before the commencement of the shift in accordance with the arrangements set out for their office
• Discussion will cover the reason for absence, likely duration and anticipated return date
and any support which Royal Mail may be able to offer
• The employee and manager should seek to agree an appropriate time and date for reviewing together all but very short absences
