when will we know what we have to look forward to .it has turned into a big joke the CWU are taking the piss give us a clue before we are well and trully stitched up rolling strikes up to xmas .no mercy.

Your losing it if u think this is the answer. When youve just lost a battle you dont go throwing the battered remnants of your army against the enemy - that way leads to complete slaughter. The union has lost this one - that much is obvious - picking the wrong ground to fight on in the first place (no business is going to let a union write its business plan), the stop-start-stop action, messing up the notification, you name it. RM, the government, labour party, press, public, the competition, CWU cant take them all on together and have any hope of a win. Its damage limitation time now so lets be realistic. The PEC is doing its best to salvage something from the wreckage of this campaign. Then its time to sort out the internal issues that have been such a handicap.

I know there will always be some who think more immediate action is the only solution. But there isnt a solution there - just an illusion - probably thats what Royal Mail would like. RM has an agreement "endorsed" by Hayes and Ward - the public knows this and the members know this - so more action official or unofficial will just make the hole were in deeper.

Don't you just love people like this, h'es obviously happy to get the white flag out and surrender, well i for one wont just except all these changes we still have our option of do the job properly and every one knows if you do that it doesn't work not sure the agreement was indorsed i thought it was just something they could take to the PEC to scrutinise and except or reject, but the way you talk is what is called cowardice, wouldnt want you watching my back in the line of fire

I understand your point of view and I can agree with some of your points - I don't believe we will have any public support whatsoever if the deal is rejected, because the CWU Executives have endorsed a poor deal and the public knows this. They will feel we are just asking for more money, without having the facts. That's because the CWU press campaign has been dreadful, not pressing hard enough on the issues we are all fighting for.

However, just accepting the deal because we've not yet had a good offer doesn't mean we should just give up. Constant striking will ALWAYS work - how many times have we heard "this is our final offer" from Royal Mail over the last few months? How many times have they come back to the table because we were on the picket line? We would not be in this current situation (by that I mean waiting on the PEC to give a verdict on the offer) had we just rolled over from the beginning. Our picket lines, our fellow CWU members and our determination to fight for a good deal has got us to this point and to give it all up now for the sake of a quiet life would be an utter waste.

We can get a good deal by keeping up the pressure on Royal Mail by announcing more strikes. They won't be so quick to discard any changes offered by the PEC, knowing we'll be out again next week if they don't agree to a better deal.


My union rep said to me a few weeks ago "the longer the picket line, the shorter the strike"... He's absolutely right about that. Royal Mail would not keep up this stubbornness if we announced an all-out strike, that's for sure...
