Good morning,
I'm hoping someone knows this. If i leave on ihr in April would i get this years leave as well as last years that i have left (2016-17), because i have entered the next year period of leave? . Or is there a certain amount of time that has to pass when you go past April, to get this years as well?.
I'm not sure when it comes to a new period of annual leave and ihr how it works, and my union rep is to busy to answer and never calls me back.

Leave is accrued (earned) rather than given by qualifying dates.
IHR has no effect on leave entitlement directly.
What happens is that every year the business assume you will remain employed for a full year so give you a full years entitlement.
Now if you start after the new leave year or leave after then you are NOT entitled to full years leave. You are only entitled to the proportion you have accrued.
So if you leave 1/2 way through the year you are only entitled to 1/2 a years annual leave.
If you have 6 weeks annual leave then on average you'll accrue about 1 weeks leave every 2 months. Or roughly 2.5 days per month.
If you leave in April its doubtful you'll get more than 1 or 2 days leave.
