Spy in cab units

These in-cab units installed in some vans are nothing more than a spy in the cab. I've seen a read out, where you stopped and how long. How and why did the unions agree to this ? The beep/buzz is driving us all mad. Where is Health and Safety when you want them ? Stressed postman

What's the problem with "where you stopped and how long" ?

If they took the trouble to know where I stopped and for how long they would know that my round can't realistically be done in the allotted time.

Also there is no agreement for these to be used for any disciplinary purposes so even if they know with this you have been sitting doing nothing for an hour, they can not use this system against you in a disciplinary

That is not the problem, the problem is the beeping , if you haven't changed gear from 1st to 2nd by 10 mph it beeps, 2nd to 3rd by 20 mph it beeps. If you don't change down 4th, 3rd, 2nd it beeps, we in our office think they are too sensitive for a rural delivery.

If they know from the spy in the cab on Monday and Tuesday you are parked up round the back of Lidl for an hour, what is to stop them the following week going out and watching you park up round the back of Lidl for an hour and then taking you down the conduct code?
Is that using the spy in the cab for disciplinary purposes or not?

Anyone who thinks these things aren't or won't be used for disciplinary purposes is a bit soft in the head imho.

I thought people could read between the lines - glad I've been proved right.

They can't use the information directly to discipline people. In other words, they can't use a print out to prove you've done what they suggest. But there is nothing stopping them using the system to gather intelligence and then confirm in person.

Its a technicality, but it's a gaping one that either the CWU missed or hoped the managers would.

I would have thought, as the vans belong to royal mail, it is their business what they do with them? I certainly would not agree with tracking individuals, but tracking pda's and vans is a separate issue. Obviously they will use the information to track individuals but so what? We are tracked/observed when we are sorting in a building.

Just to reiterate what others have mentioned - they can also use real time info to drive directly to where you are located so hiding in a different place each day won't help.

As soon as people stop running round this issue will be history, who the F has time to sit around these days anyway other than idiots running round and not taking breaks?

that is why I specifically stated quite clearly that the system can't be used against you in a disciplinary, if they catch you round back of lidls they cannot use the system as evidence in the disciplinary
