leave entitlement hours
Can anyone give me clarification please...
in our TRP our holiday entitlement is expressed in hours... (in my case 202.8)...
I work a 9 day fortnight system, ie 44 hours on 'long' week and 34 hours on a 'short' week...
I have been allocated 5 weeks annual leave, 4 out of the 5 being on my 'short' rotared weeks...
am I being diddled on hours here as I am told by my lino (and union rep) that a 'week' is classed as 'week' regardless of hours??

Our leave entitlement is calculated in days, not hours or weeks, so in total how many annual leave days are you getting and how many years of service do you have?

leave is now booked through psp in HOURS, this is due to the differing lengths of day people now work, for eg our working week is 48.75 hours or 8.125 hours per day so we are entitled to every 5th week off, we still accrue this entitlement when on leave so annual leave is deducted in hours at this rate, so if entitled to the max 6 weeks (ie 234 hours) it is actually 28.8 days and with a 6 day week comes in at under 5 weeks holiday per annum.

doesn't matter what your leave is booked on psp as, hours etc, our contracted leave entitlement is in days, so a 20 year service gets 30 days annual leave regardless of hours worked on a daily basis

Wrong, try argueing it with HR, they are chasing up on this, I am not saying I disagree with your sentiment, or whether it is right or wrong but someone has decided that leave is now in hours and if you normally work a longer working week then you will use up more leave. HOWEVER on the + side if you work longs and shorts you could try booking leave only on your short days and end up with an extra day or twozx135 wrote:aposter wrote:leave is now booked through psp in HOURS, this is due to the differing lengths of day people now work, for eg our working week is 48.75 hours or 8.125 hours per day so we are entitled to every 5th week off, we still accrue this entitlement when on leave so annual leave is deducted in hours at this rate, so if entitled to the max 6 weeks (ie 234 hours) it is actually 28.8 days and with a 6 day week comes in at under 5 weeks holiday per annum.

EDIT: of course being RM not every orafice is equal, the reason I know this for sure is our last manager hadn't a scooby how to use PSP and only inputed a/l on the manpower plan in days, as a result of this when we got a new manager who used psp HR have come back and told us how far out everyone is with the result that a few people who hadn't used all their annual leave have had it revoked and others have been told they owe x hours. It remains to be seen how this will be resolved.

one reason it must stay in days is exactly the longs and shorts, new starts only just make it over the statutory minimum holidays when including bank holidays, if they took leave only on long days(some offices have 9.5 hours as a long day for example) it would reduce their leave entitlement below 28 complete days which is completely against the law
also to change it to hours would require a contractual change to all employees, as yet I have not had anything in writing stating that was going to happen, the employee handbook still has entitlement in days and the union hasn't agreed to it, our entitlement is still in days regardless of what any dom says

In the past I have worked a four day week, if I took leave on this week it would cost me a weeks leave (five days) rather than four days.

it sort of should, if your working 4 days a week then your total allowance is 4/5 of what it would be if you were on a 5 day week, again leave is in days not weeks so a 20 tar service on 30 days leave but working a 4 day week will only get 24 days holiday, still gets equivalent of 6 weeks same as a 5 day week person, a lazy dom instead of recalculating your leave entitlement will just call a weeks leave 5 days instead of 4, it's technically wrong but still gives you same amount of leaveDeadly wrote:In the past I have worked a four day week, if I took leave on this week it would cost me a weeks leave (five days) rather than four days.

Thanks to everyone for responses.... Still looks as clear as mud though!!
I feel that only being given one 'long' week as leave and the other four weeks as my 'short' weeks is doing me out of 15 hours that I have entitlement to (according to TRP)
... this has happened two years running now

Looks, to me, like you're being diddled out of 22 hours and 48 minutes.
Why not change your leave?

our leave is in days as long as he is getting the correct amount of days off he is not being diddled out of anything, yes he is not gaining extra days off by using his leave in a more efficient way but he is not losing any of his annual leave entitlement

My leave in this circumstance equates to 4 weeks at 4 days an 1 week at 5 which means 21 days a/l in total ... Is that correct then ??zx135 wrote:swpostie wrote:Looks, to me, like you're being diddled out of 22 hours and 48 minutes.
