Hello. Just a quick question. How many hours do you have to do to be classed as a part absence ?
I thought has long as you attempted to go to work thats all is required.

Not you have to succeed - an attempt to get to work doesn't count unless you actually get there. If you don't it's a full absence.

The actual policy does not state a particular number of hours:
Part day absences will not normally be considered. If the number of part-day absences has become excessive the matter will be discussed with the employee in line with the principles of this procedure. Further part day absences may be counted against the attendance standards, following written notice in advance.

But isn't the heart condition covered under the Equality Act?
In which case they might be counted and then discounted  or have you had a letter about your absences not being covered by the Equality Act as well?

Spot on _ relevant section of the Attendance Agreement posted below.
Does an employee’s absence count as part of the formal attendance process?

Any absence that is considered to be related to an employee’s disability will still be reviewed but should normally be discounted as part of the formal attendance process.

Where the manager may be considering if the disability related absence should be considered as part of the formal attendance process, the manager should seek advice first from the HR Advice Centre.

In deciding whether to count a disability related absence towards the formal attendance process, the manager should have:

• Reviewed all relevant Occupational Health Service reports and considered whether it is appropriate to seek further advice from the
Occupational Health Service.

Having sought advice from Occupational Health Service and HR Advice Centre and where it is justified to do so e.g. an employee’s disability related absences reach an unacceptable level, the manager should advise them in writing that any future absences may be counted.

The employee should receive written notice in advance.

Periods of absence that are discounted should still be recorded and reviewed, and details of any conversations retained.

If the absence is not related to the employee’s disability, and it is being considered as part of a formal review the manager should explain to the employee that that particular absence is being counted and why.

Hi
Yes I am covered under the equality act, I had part of a lump on my neck removed and I'm on medication that caused a few problems, primarily with my heart,

Usually at least 1 hour should suffice.don't think there is any agreement though.

No but most units use "Custom and Practice" and an hour at work seems the most common.
