Hi,

I wonder if I can get some advise. I have been with Royal Mail for a few years now and the re-sign came up - Applied for a round and was advised would be able to get it as meet the seniority criteria.
Another member of staff who is newer than me wants the round and has been telling everyone that she is the best qualified etc for the round - is also really good 'mates' with the Union Rep. The re-sign closing date has come and gone and I have been advised by the manager that I cannot have the round as the other person in question and her friend do not wish to work with me - They only want to work with each other.

The other person has been making comments about me for months now behind my back and sometimes not so behind my back but has not stated what her issue is with me - The comments have only started up since the re-sign was announced.

Where do I stand and what can I do - I don't want to take another round as this means that I am allowing myself to be bullied and also that management is allowing someone with less seniority but good connections within the office to have their way.

Thanks

Do NOT pick an alternative round until the matter of the duty that you wanted has been established. You hold seniority for this position which has been the foundation in RM policy for the resourcing of duties as per the way forward agreement.
Do not be pressurised into other round even if it holds up the re-pick and stick to your guns until the grievance your have submitted has been addressed. If not in your favour at 1st stage grievance stage then you can continue on to 2nd/3rd stage grievance. If you are short on training for the duty that you particularly want then it is up to RM to provide this to enable you to improve within the business which they keep stating.
On the matter of the harassment you are receiving from colleagues I would put this on the back burner for present until the issue of the duty has been settled then you can continue with your B&H complaint. If on the matter of seniority for this duty is not being supported by your union rep then as has been suggested take to divisional rep and to CWU HQ if necessary.

The one thing that has to be remembered is that royal mail has an obligation to deal with any personal issues between staff members in a way that does not provoke or promote bullying and harassment in the workplace so there will be rare occasions where seniority can be bypassed.

In this case it would seem that the manager has shortcutted the procedure and taken what he believes is the easiest option but not necessarily the correct option.

You have seniority. If the other duty holder doesn't want to work with you that's fine, they can go sign for another walk can't they!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?
