Ill health retirement through injury

Afternoon. So over the last 2-3 years I've suffered with sciatica and a knee injury (caused by a slip at work) and now on Tuesday I was hit by a car whilst biking home. I'm beginning to think that I'm not going to be able to continue as a postie due to excessive skeletal pain. The knee and sciatic pain was already proving a real pain, but I can't believe that after being smashed by a car, being thrown about 10ft and slamming all my left side on impact with the road, that I may just find it all too much to carry on. I'm seriously thinking about the IHR route and wether or not it could or would be offered.

Any ideas of what might happen, or if any of you have been in a similar predicament,

Your first port of call should be OH Assist. Ask your manager for a referral.
Your manager might suggest this anyway if you are going to be off sick.
You should also mention to your manager that you are interested in IHR - if you are full time they might be very keen to get rid of you on the cheap.

If you have been injured by the car and were not at fault I would strongly advise speaking to the union, they will be able to put you in touch with union solicitors to help pursue a claim for injuries, if the injuries are that bad you may not be able to continue your job then the possible payout from that should be far higher than the ihr payout, you can do both at same time

a chap at our place got knocked off his pushbike on the way home from work a few years ago.he went thru his union solicitors and they got him an absolutely fabulous payoff.

Thanks for the quick response guys. As for all the above, I was going home from work, so had my orange rain Mac on. Nice and bright, and an old chap side swiped me as he entered the roundabout I was already on. I haven't been back to work as I can only move if the Mrs assists me. Poor girls had to have time off work to look after me. Dare not try the stairs yet. I was really lucky when it happened, as my union rep came round the roundabout and spotted the high vis, and bald head, and knew it was me, so stopped to help another chap who was already comforting me. I rang the works resource office yesterday, as I didn't know which line manager to ring due to day-off rotation, but haven't heard anything back from my office, or anyone RM related whatsoever. The police haven't visited or rang for a statement either. I shall be chasing all the above tomorrow!!
