London spans may be down to the fact, that they get far more work to sort up, I worked in both areas you speak of, couldn't believe the speeds that posties worked at in Scotland, nearly all the posties I see in London( when i'm down) have HCT and are taken out in the 600 size vans, dropped off and collected, they do not rush about like posties up here, if the job needs doing properly... they will do it!!! some of the posties I see delivering in London, would take about 6 hours to do a walk up here!!! plus the fact, London is high density, a lot more addresses and businesses, we use to deliver to two tower blocks, full of firms, lift to the top floor and bags(the grey ones) full of mail would be chucked out on each floor, think about it!!! London is not like offices up here!!!

How would leaving the union help you? Do you honestly believe Royal Mail will make it fair for you?

its not true ,our delivery spans are dictated by our shift patterns ,some offices are on 5 day weeks ,some do a nine day fortnight and some do a four day week so delivery spans can differ from office to office by a few hours.

The same agreements aply to your office that do in London, if your office has agreed changes which increased the delivery span and other offices didn't agree to those changes, it's not really the unions fault, why did your office not use the agreements in place to keep shorter delivery spans the same way as the offices in London?

Another red herring I could take you to loads of offices in London with longer spans. Equally London has the biggest growth in delivery points which extend a delivery as does attendance calls.

London has the most tracked and handles over 30% of the UK PS items plus has high parcel delivery demands. In addition 33 offices are outside their postcode area. There 6 offices whose postcode area is in West London and they are based in NW10 which on a good day takes about 50 mins to get to their delivery points via the A40 car park and of course 50 mins back.

I worked in a DO in SW London a few years back and can confirm that walks on average were 4 hours long with a HCT in use and 3-4 bags drops thrown in as well.
This was done on a 9 day fortnight duty attendance pattern.
