Leaving the union

Hi can someone tell me how i leave the union? Also is anybody in a union bar the cwu? any info would be great

You are obviously fed up with the union at local/national level. There are many benefits to membership access to union solicitors to name one. We have the best terms and conditions in our industry all down to the CWU.
And just remember that the union is only as strong as it's membership.
We are the union!

Well i wouldnt mind if the union reps in my office did nothing but they actually make my life alot tougher, no help at all. No where to be seen when things get heated, told a lad to walk out because he couldnt handle it (he was bullied by management)

Ill look into a differrent union

we all get tit'st off at stuff and i feel they don't try to pull us together on issues, i do wonder what the heads of the cwu do?
our reps told us all to bang as much overtime in as possible but they never ever push for full time jobs even though this increases the cwu's coffers
i'm disillusioned with their activity being on par with a man utd attack but with the nazi style management in place its worth the price of a pint & half of lager just for peace of mind someone will be there if the crap hits the fan

Problem there is that RM/management don't have to negotiate or communicate with your new union, or even allow them access to your workplace, so what's the point?

Think his point is he wants to be in a union that wants to represent all its members not the chosen few which I reckon happens quite regularly especially those reps whose tongue is regularly up managements you know what. just to add am still in cwu but people are leaving in there droves because of bad representation or none at all.

You could use different rep ie area rep if you think it is worth fighting for.

No,no,no,no,no just imagine if everyone decided to leave the union, do you really believe that Royal Mail would not attack your terms and conditions in order to be more competitive? and do you really believe that Royal Mail just gave us the £10 odd an hour and our conditions like sick pay, good holiday entitlement? no the CWU negotiated them on our behalf.

If you have got some dodgy reps then go round them to the area rep then the divisional rep and then to the regional secretary if necessary but if you do have to go that far you had better have another look at your concern as it might just be they are right.

Why don't you get the ball rolling for a vote (whatever the process is) between you and whoever is the current rep?

Why don't you get the ball rolling for a vote (whatever the process is) between you and whoever is the current rep?

Same old argument, if you are not happy with your rep then do it yourself ? If people are not happy with their Dom mismanaging the office do you recommend they put in to do that job? Not everyone wants to be a union rep. Coming out the union is sometimes the only way for people to protest about what is happening.

How about just expecting the rep to do their job? In our office the rep constantly gets their workload reduced, their cronies have the smallest deliveries compared to the rest of us and are untouchable. Our rep marches about like they own the place and management say F all because it means they get an easier life too.

About time the union addressed this

i do see your point some people do use the position as a way to influence there own duty but i will remind you if you feel that you are not getting represented take itup with the area rep he is impartial to your office and if the rep is not doing there job he can help bye having a meeting to sort it out so stay in the union you will always meet these self interested people we had one now his duty is sorted he resigned from the job lol and i took the reps job to deffend our rights
