I've been off work for 4 weeks with high blood pressure/heart problems. every week I attend the docs and get a new certificate, and my wife drives me the 15miles to work to drop it off. Today I phoned my manager to say that I was unable to come In Tomorrow I would arrange for the cert to get to him and would happily come in anyday next week for a catch up. He said that I have to come in tomorrow otherwise he will doc my pay and I will be disciplined. He also said I have to come in and watch some training video and take a test but he only mentioned this after I said I couldn't attend this week. I've had no formal letter saying I had to come in this Saturday and when I sai refused to come in to do work as I'm supposed to be resting he said Royal Mail are paying my wages so I have to do what they say and I'm not paid to sit at home. What I want to know is do I have to attend a meeting every single week and does it have to be on a day they demand wether it suites me or not?.
The sickness policy just says that I have to keep in touch which I have been.any advice would be a great help.

Personally I would tell them I'm not feeling well enough and Will you take responsabllity if I take a turn for the worst.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Have had the appointment with OH they don't want me back at work until the hospital have concluded all there tests and given me a diagnosis. The thing is he has made me worse as we had a row on the phone and after that my blood pressure shot up & I got pains in my chest. My union rep is on holiday for a week.

Not a good situation to be in and I hope you get better without the stress of idiots like your manager.
It's interesting to see how things are in other offices, if a manager tried that tactic in our office he'd be laughed out of the building.
