Re: carrying A/L leave days over
Can only carry them over with agreement from manager, otherwise they should be used before end of leave year,
as a side point people should not have weeks of unused leave, your full year allocation should have already been booked by the end of October passed, yes there may be the odd bank holiday credit but that's about all that should be left

Re: carrying A/L leave days over
yes 5 days. But I had 2 weeks carried over in the past as I was off work for 5 months and this means my 2 weeks annual leave is unused until the following year.

Re: carrying A/L leave days over
in that case get onto manager to ensure your sorted before end of leave year and get onto your rep and get him to read the way forward agreement on annual leave as all leave should be sorted out well before start of the leave yeardblad wrote:Really, I've got 8 days to book yet plus that half dayzx135 wrote:Can only carry them over with agreement from manager, otherwise they should be used before end of leave year,

Re: carrying A/L leave days over
Starting this coming Monday I have 3 weeks off work. 11 days of which are lieu days I have had in the 'bank' for the last 4 years! I spat the dummy out last summer and insisted that I wanted to use them up, this is the first opportunity I've had to take them. When I've asked for them previously they've just laughed in my face!
"Just take it out and see how you go......."

The Way Forward
Carrying leave into another year
Annual leave should generally be taken in the year that it is due, and the business expects all employees to have at least four weeks away from work every year. However up to one week (or 5 odd days) may be carried over into the next leave year, and up to five days may be anticipated during the last month of the previous leave year. Transfer of leave in excess of these limits requires written permission from the line manager, except that leave that cannot be taken due to sick leave may be allowed in the following year. Where this is granted and would reduce the annual leave taken in a particular leave year to less than four weeks, the individual must also confirm in writing that they are willing to voluntarily forgo their statutory leave entitlement under the Working Time Regulations 1998.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: carrying A/L leave days over
I've carried over every year I've been here. Last year I think I carried over 8, this year I have 6.5. Our office has nowhere near enough holiday to go around, so most people always end up with loads of unbooked leave. If the company doesn't let you book, then they surely have no choice but to let you carry over.

That's in theory, not in practice.zx135 wrote:Can only carry them over with agreement from manager, otherwise they should be used before end of leave year,

Many of us have about two weeks of this years allowance remaining that we can't take because "all the weeks have been taken" so there's no option but to carry over more than five days. And this happens most years.

If you have two weeks remaining then you more than likely have not had your full 5.6 weeks minimum holiday, by law royal mail must let you take at least that amount, regardless of whether they have space or not to let you take them

"by law" or not nobody can be bothered arguing so we all carry a fortnight or so over.zx135 wrote:Lounge Lizard wrote:That's in theory, not in practice.zx135 wrote:Can only carry them over with agreement from manager, otherwise they should be used before end of leave year,
