Have The Media Got It All Wrong ?
Back in June the Union Issued a hand out informing us they would print the facts in national papers even take out TV advertisements to paint the picture of our side of the issues. This would inform the public of the facts ie it is not all about pay , it is more to do with conditions flexibility the bigger picture on the later starts the obvious attack on our pensions etc, but what happened to it? Nearly once or twice a week we get Pink Shirt Late-in apoloigising to the public telling them the offer on the table is a good one and that all postman are lazy.
Its fair to say a lot of customers say they understand our point of view but on the other hand there is the same amount that just think we should grin a bare it. Why can the union not Broadcast the true facts, that the flexi crap is just a golden ticket for these line wineos (DOMS) to do with you as you please send you to another unit adjust your start times later earleir just in general make your life an absoulute missery, stael your pension from under your nose. Why is it exceptable ?

They can't be bothered!
As far as I can see, they can't be bothered to put the true facts to the Public. After all, RM want secrecy, and they don't want to "rock the boat".
What they fail to appreciate, is that it is far more important to keep the Public, and above all US, informed. All this secrecy is causing unnecessary unrest. And RM are getting away with telling the Public a right load of BS, without being contridicted!

Someone tried telling me yesterday, that RMs plans were needed, as they were loosing £4,000 a week. But as the figures still haven't been released, how could anyone know that?!?! The fact is, that Leighton and Crozier are sitting on the accounts, so that they can lie about these things, in order to get the Public to believe that they have no other choice, and that we are in the wrong! And worst of all, the Public are buying it!

THE MEDIA----IT'S SIMPLE
WE DON'T GET OUR SIDE PORTRAYED PROPERLY BECAUSE IT'S ALL POLITICAL.
IT'S ALL OVER OUR HEADS, THE GOVERNMENT CONTROL IT AND THEY DON'T WANT THE GENERAL PUBLIC KNOWING THEY HAVE ANY THING TO DO WITH MAKING THEIR SERVICE A RUBBISH ONE!!!
LEIGHTON AND THE BIG BOYS ARE ALL FRIENDLY WITH MURDOCH AND THE MEDIA MOGALS------IT'S NO WONDER IS IT!!
WE HAVEN'T ALSO GOT MILLIONS TO THROW AT MINDLESS PROPOGANDA OR TO HAVE OUR OWN PINK SHIRTED BLOKE ON A BIASED TV COMPANY
SPOUTING OFF HOW NAUGHTY THE OTHER SIDE ARE.

couldn't agree more about with the bit about people having the p*** taken out of them & turning a years of public service culture changed into a commercial corporate culture in the space of years without any consultation. Even Unite slate RM for their we know best arrogance & 70's command & control style.BFG's comments about no excuse for p*** poor management are spot on.Some good comments on the later pages about RM's contempt for business customers and that's :lfo !.
Plenty of the stereotypical post Thatcherite c*** as well though !
What annoys me is some of the tory papers had Crozier on the ropes about his arrogance, as they'd scores to settle with him as he nearly/should have been sacked for fiddling (well I never) sales figures @ The Telegraph.
Unfortunately he wriggled out of it with the spanish practices, red herring about the CWU that the media swallowed hook, line & sinker and yet again ! PROPOGANDA BECAME "FACT" Not like RM to make something out of something vague & obscure though
. Poor handling by the CWU , took attention away from this Edwardian ,go to work when it's dark & go home when it's dark & we'll make you grateful for it ;flexibility stuff. :cfo :cfo s***-bag !

This very point was raised at our official union meeting this afters. Rep said CWU HAD been struggling to get media outlets to publish info.
The full-page news paper ad which DID appear in Mirror (and another paper not sure) was proposed to all majors but they said WE WON'T PRINT IT - Murdoch and propaganda from RM put them off.
The same applies to Murdoch controled TV - Leighton is a non-executive director of Sky and very well connected - he is activley preventing the CWU from getting the truth out there.

The one thing they do report on is the strikes - and then we can get some points across. Someone on here said that the likes of Liverpool et al was damaging - but I saw more of our point of view during that period. I was also impressed with Mick Walsh(?), who always seemed in control, never stuck for words and didn't have a hysterical approach and ALWAYS mentioned the fact that they were available for talks and negotiations. I think I saw Billy Hayes once and he looked like the understudy for a remake of Billy Bunter goes to Greyfriars. I didn't see Dave Ward once. If the media won't report the facts then we must make the strikes newsworthy.opgpat wrote:This very point was raised at our official union meeting this afters. As for our two less than newsworthy leaders - they've done themselves no favours. It would be meet justice if the pair of them entered the political arena and disappeared into oblivion.

"AUNTIE"
I found the Radio 4 news to be reasonably fair about the CWU & Royal Mail , a marked improvement on some reporting. Unfortunately Crozier got himself out of a corner with all the long gone vague & obscure Spanish Practices slurs on the CWU.dvbuk55 wrote:The one thing they do report on is the strikes - and then we can get some points across. I can accept Joe & Josophine Public aren't avid R4 listeners but being the BBC Flagship service like Newsnight on the TV it's the likes of politicians ,&journalists listening to the likes of R4 .vigilante wrote:norbet colon wrote:I found the Radio 4 news to be reasonably fair about the CWU & Royal Mail , a marked improvement on some reporting. You wouldn't have politicians going back to the days of Thatcher & Tebbit complaining about the likes of Humphries & Naughtie on the Today Programme and the supposed left wing bias or Alaistair Campbell on the blower to the BBC turning the air blue as it's one thing he can't but would like to control or manipulate .
I retuned the radio as there's a tendency to try and make 10 minutes of news stretch out to a hour and there's only about 8 real news items a day so the media gets repetetive . Also 5 Live on AM sounds like you've left your radio on in a cupboard .
To the people who complain about the BBC ,the commercial alternatives are far worse , I've noticed a lot of Asians favour the BBC as it has some standards about fairness & accuracy.

Murdoch is an absolute c***, and he has far too much sway. He hates the working class. Never bought his s**t rag the NOTW since he had a go at our troops in Iraq, and now f****d The Scum off since it sided with RM against us posties.Murdoch also absolutly f****d up the print unions in the 80s. Dont buy his shite rags!

Not sure wheather i've posted this before but...
A while back there was this article in the Sun which as you can imagine was biased towards RM.
I e-mailed their business editor Ian King, and was very suprised in that i got a response from him.
He said that the original article that he had submitted was doctored before it was published,he showed me what he originally wrote and it was very different.
Nuff said!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: "AUNTIE"
Does anyone have any idea what news services those commercial stations use? Obviously not BBC, does ITN have a radio news service? Mind you, Sky has a radio news service for commercial radio stations, and isn't one of their director chappies also in charge of that sloppy mess at RM?norbet colon wrote:To the people who complain about the BBC ,the commercial alternatives are far worse , I've noticed a lot of Asians favour the BBC as it has some standards about fairness & accuracy.
So we don't get a shot at fair reporting on commercial stations - it's only SNAFU.
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?
