Tuesday off for a month..

Manager has told me that Tuesday will be my next day off for the next 4 weeks, because i'm a floater that is the way its fallen.

Is this allowed? I'm sure your suppose to have alternative days off, As i'd like it for fall of a Saturday once in a while(ie once in 5 weeks?) so I can spend it with my little boy.

Also, If you don't have a break until the end of the day but then having the break causes you to go over your time, is that a overtime claim?

Is there a manual/resource available that answers all these kind of questions? I'd like to see the actual rules written down, it seems to be rules for different people and offices.

you can try to book it, it depends on the manager. They may just tell you to take your break at the right time and if you didnt have it then its your own fault. Theres no "rule" on this as youre not supposed to take breaks at the end of the shift.
You`ll probably find you have a better day overall if you get into the habit of taking your breaks at the right time.

The official finish time in my office is 14.48 but we all finish at 14.28 and the difference comes from our meal break. If I was to go over and finish at 14.48 for example, I could book 20 minutes overtime. Hope this helps

Is there an issue if the office does longs and shorts? If you are always off on a shorter day then are you working more than the contracted hours? Normally over a 6 week cycle you would get a mix of days off so it evens out but not the case if its always a short day.

the current system used at ours is only accurate for those with a rotating day over 6 weeks

so if given 4 tues off in a row you are bound to work more hours unpaid over the 6 weeks average, another way to shaft the reserves, wonder if they'll all get tues 29th march off too

Nope they'll get Monday the 28th. That's how it works in our office.

If I were in that position I would total the hrs for the week up till Friday end then inform them how many hrs I have left for Saturday. Simple. Don't work for free.
