Prep rates for RM2000 ?

Post by dididw »

I know there isn't an agreed prep rate for RM2000, but why are managers intend on beating us with a stick......a collegue in work is being tested for his performance tomorrow morning, ive adviced him they can only test him for 1 minute, if he fails the test they then have to help the postie to get up to the unagreed standard. am I right ?
They have been quoted as staying they will take him down the conduct code.....if that's true they can be done for bullying & harrassment. We are all different, all prep rates vary, you might suffer from dyslexia etc.
Could someone please advice me if there are is a national AGREED prep rate for RM2000, the once weve been quoted is 25 per minute !!

I have not performed deliveries for a while, but as far as i can remember there was never any rate set in stone, the reason being cause they did not want the tear-arses slowing down, as you have already mentioned sort rates vary depended on each individual.

It is probably best to discuss with your rep or if not available your area rep, hope this helps.

yes, it is unreasonable to expect someone even in a single slot for each delivery to maintain the one minute standard the frame must also not have any mail in before the 'test', if the dom does a letter count for thier entire duty this is a different sort of prep 'test' and 11 items a minute over 2hrs is fine.

I think the prep rate is for 1 minute & don't know the exact number (25?), but you can't be conduct coded. If you have been doing that walk for any length of time and this is the first time they have said they are going to prep test you without a valid reason, take out a harassment form & get union rep involved. If you fail the test you have to have retraining and then prep tested. As mentioned the prep test is for 1 minute & they can't check for accuracy either.

By the way the prep test is for a RM2000 frame with 1 slot per address, if you have 2 addresses to 1 slot because of space restrictions they cant do a prep test accurately. Get union rep involved.

I have had this done to me. I was advised by my area rep that anyone standing over me watching me sort was victimising me and once I threatened to report a grievance, they backed off. I was also advised that they can keep a record of how quick people sort for their own records, but they cannot punish anyone for being below their set standard - be it conduct code or moving them to another delivery - only try to assist them with the prep.

Much like they have to assist someone who cannot complete, I guess.

Keep an eye on whether they test the guy who covers him on his day off - if they don't, it's blatant harassment. I was told "I'm not testing you, I'm testing the prep time for the delivery" and no doubt this postie will be told the same. Therefore, they need to test everyone that does it. Ask them the reason for testing him, then ask for it in writing. If it's because he's cutting off, tell them they need to test everyone that cuts off. Question whether the postman knows the frame well enough to be tested accurately. As they have already stated they will conduct code him, ask for an independent person to conduct the test, as you feel they are out to get the postman.

Stand up to them, threaten a grievance (and follow it through if necessary) and they'll back down. Nothing ever came of it when I was tested, because I politely and aggressively told them exactly what I thought of their bogus test.

I was told I am too slow by a screw and that i need to speed up!!

Nearly all the slots have 2 addresses in and after about an hour of prepping they become very full.

tell him "maybe I'll reach Royal Mail's standard, when royal mail reach the standard for the frames - 1 slot, 1 delivery point."

If I remember rightly the error rate is more important that the prep rate and you do not have to sort letters you don't know. i.e. if you have a bundle you can flick through it and pick out all the mail for a large firm, thus giving you the required sort speed.

Maybe this is a stupid statement but can you not just throw the mail into the general area and sort out the details later (if you want the speed up) because several people in my office do that :hmmmm

as a coach i can give you advise only for a RM2000 single slot frame the prep rate is 25-31 per min whether this is agreed or not this is the info to hand also if you were to FAIL an agreed test you would most certainly be a case for re- training NOT CONDUCT OK

The IPS - Individual Performance Standards Agreement can be viewed or downloaded from the CWU union website. It's on the left hand side of the opening home page.
