Re: Buying holidays
It varies from office to office. My office has a rolling down seniority policy. Though with bought hols the senior man has priority. Its a local agreement, usually.

Re: Buying holidays
Legally, I believe employees are entitled to 28 days annual leave per year, which can include bank holidays.
From that perspective, RM offer more than the legal requirement, FT staff get at least 30.5 days leave per year (before we consider extra leave through long service and Purchase Of Annual Leave).

Re: Buying holidays
Why should the senior postie get priority over bought hols, everyone is equal on those days as they are paid for by us.El-Bandito wrote:It varies from office to office. Re: Buying holidays
It doesn't matter about Seniority where holidays are concerned
We choose what weeks we want and they get drawn out of an invisible hat. I would like more holidays from work and would be prepared to work some days off in return for weeks off BUT we have been told that we can't work this way because they can't cover all the duties adequately. Nobody gets a week off in December, for example.
Even now, trying to arrange a day off 3 months in advance with either a manager or DOM support is like Mission Impossible. And the only reason they are generally uncooperative and inflexible is because they don't like having to change rota's or changing staff around to cover.
I really do like the idea of 'buying' holidays as I prefer to "work to live" rather than live to work so working extra days for money doesn't really interest me. However, I suspect that buying holidays gets pushed aside with the CWU when managers put staff resourcing at the top of their list.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
