Anyway, I want to put a motion in at Liverpool and I want to know what I have to do to get it in.
Also, I might as well ask you what the chances are of getting it heard & what you think are the chances of getting it carried. The motion is I would like is for the GS's pay to be brought down closer to the level of the membership ( say 2.5 times the highest level wage of a working member, and for all officers renumerated by the union to have their pay structured downwards accordingly. I would also like all renumeration and benefits of union officers to be tied into those of their members ( ie, if they negotiate CARE based pensions for us, that is what they end up with themselves, etc ).
I have no idea what Hayes earns as GS, but I have heard here it is in the region of £80k, with all the benefits someone of that pay bracket should expect, and it has been speculated that the leadership has lost touch with the membership....if they negotiate their pay at the same time as ours, I figure it might motivate a bit more tenacity. Also, I realise it would mean a signifcant drop in pay for the officials, but the job should be about what you can achieve for your colleagues, not about getting power & money, before riding off to a comfy berth in Parliment or on a Quango.....I would rather a passionate advocate for my cause than another cowboy Like Alan Johnson.
Cheers for your time.
