Hi guys, rural office here. We have recently been told by our manager that if we can't deliver to a certain area due to flooding, we must take a photo of the impassable road as evidence which then gets passed on to the DSM... so what do you do if you don't have a camera/smart phone? Manager won't answer this question!

I would take the mail back to the office , Mark it as inaccessible and then invite your Dom to come out and take the photos himself , I bet he doesn't

Either that or ask him for a camera to take out with you , if you haven't got the tools to do what he is asking then you can't be expected to comply.

We have been advised not to put ourselves or the vans at risk.

PDA doesn't offer camera function (currently) & your own personal mobile phone is exactly that & you won't be using it as part of your, potentially, daily work activities. Tell them to provide you with a camera & you'll happily comply.

A postman was suspended from work for going through flood water and knackered the van up in a rural office not far from our office,this happened a couple of weeks ago,so not worth the risk

For goodness sake, what next?
Stop and take a photo of that snarling dog that wants to eat your ass?
or a photo of the house burning down that 's resulted in a street being shut?

Just ensure you've correctly endorsed all the mail, If the Dom wants pretty pictures of the countryside he can go out and take them himself.

I told my manager about 3 cottages where the lane had constant standing water, over 7 inches deep in many places, that took weeks to go down after heavy rain, took photos, and he said don't go up there, leave it at the estate office that owns the cottages. A week later he tells me the occupants have complained about having to get their mail from the office, and can I deliver to them!!! I tell ya.
