Long weekend for reserves question

Can any union rep answer this question for me how come we signed up to an agreement where 98% of the workforce gets long weekends. But the 2% that are reserves don't... Surly the union should not sign up to anything that does not represent ALL its our does it just pick and choose it's battles

feel for you, had my own duty for a few years now but always sympathetic for reserves, shafted every other week.
had to laugh when those who'd accrued umpteen extra days leave because of b/h credits and can't take them all this year are behind those who buy extra leave in picking next years dates?

I don't recall any part of any national agreement singling out Reserves to be treated any less favourably than any other postal workers, irrespective of the attendance patterns used. If anyone can point me in that direction I will gladly take the argument to HQ.

Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.

all the agreements should be written on shite paper for what they're worth
from what i'm told, reserves should average, not set, 1 sat every 6 weeks, which is about 7 or 8 per year and monday not added either so not guaranteed sat/mon off.
not sure of the facts in our d/o but i'd guess very few reserves have had 3 sats off unless they are reserves who have been on a vacant duty for the year.

The OP is complaining about long weekends off not the number of saturdays, yes there is an agreement in place which gives them the same number of saturdays off but that agreement does not give them the same number of long weekends off, there is no entitlement for reserves to get the monday off as well

It's happened in our office too, all reserves have not been given Saturday off, but it's nothing new, I used to get shafted like this when I first started and I would guess that nearly all of us have at some time.

so are reserves entitled to the same number as long weekends as everyone else?

I believe the Reserves should get the same amount. It's a Shite job and you can do without getting anymore crap. Our Reserves work on the same rolling day off as everyone else. If they didn't they'd be pushing for Discrimination.

I discussed with our Rep about moving to 1 in 4 Saturdays off, which I believe some DOs use, he said it's merely a matter of us. the members , voting it in. So we'll see what happens next year.

Nearly been in the job 18 months and had 1 long weekend and possibly 3 Saturday's in that time. I've been promised rolling days off since I started and guess what, not a chance it's either a Tuesday off if I'm lucky or I end up working my rest day. Managed 1 day off in the last 10 weeks. My new years resolution is to learn the word 'NO' it's not my problem that they're under- staffed! What I find really annoying is the Rota only goes up on the Saturday for the next week, it's a joke, you check it and find I'm down for 6 days and then you dint get paid ahhhhhh, does my head in!
