Grievance

Post by bostaph »

I am planning to put a grievance in regarding my manager. I believe he made a difference with me because I refused to do any overtime over the Christmas period. He knows I have a recognised disabling condition regarding my health, and do not want to do any overtime as I want to spend my spare time trying to stay healthy.
My question is: what happens regarding a grievance? Who decides if I have been unfairly treated? What are the possible outcomes of a grievance? Does he just get a wrap on the knuckles if found guilty?
Many thanks in advance.

What was the difference he made with you? As depending on what it was he may not have been doing anything wrong,

ie if you were only one in the office who completely refused to do any overtime he may have moved you to a round which would be easier for him to arrange to cover any cut off you had, that may seem unfair to you but it would be a reasonable thing for a manager to do,

what I am trying to say is be careful you don't get yourself into a position where by you are raising a grievance for an issue you feel is unfair where in fact it could be looked apon as a reasonable course of action for the DOM and then you in fact may end up getting in trouble over

the issue should firstly be looked at by his line manager, possible out comes are anything from no action to dismissal depending on the circumstances, without knowing more about what happened any suggestion on possible outcomes is completely guess work

If you feel your disability was the issue I would first suggest talking to the Equalities Officer/ Disability champion at your Branch.
Discuss the issue with them and allow them to advise you.

Thanks for the replies. Apologies for being vague, but if I had put what had happened, it would have been obvious who I was (I know some people in my office use this site). I would prefer to stay anonymous.
Thanks again.
