Flex agreed for 21st Dec

Our rep announced 30min flex will be applied on Monday 21st of December and given back on Christmas eve as its going to be light ,is this across the board?

ask your rep how this qualifies as flexibility.
Where necessary, for example when traffic volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Again, individual circumstances will be taken into account

Now me personally if it was on offer I'd probably take it for a shorter day on Thursday. but it should be voluntary.

You can be asked to work over 30 minutes & given back another day, the key word there is ASKED!!
Your rep sounds like he knows nothing of what he talks about! If you want to flex 30 mins over its totally up to you, if not say no, nothing can be said to you at all!
Going over your time is always a choice!

Your rep cannot tell you to flex, it is a personal choice, just as working over your time for overtime. As far as I'm aware.

Light on Christmas eve is total nonsense specials will be through the roof and its Thursday plus off on Saturday means more mail pushed through

gand I hear this year in year out,yes there will be plenty of specials :thumbup ,but mail and parcel wise will be very light.

Can anyone point me to an agreement that states we have to come in early?

We're being told to come in 40 minutes early tomorrow and it won't be given back to us. Union agreement apparently.

Thanks for that. At a bit of a loss over what course of action to take now. We were told it had been agreed with the union at which point the rep went in to query it and was apparently shown a letter confirming this. Could this have been agreed at local level? (area rep)

We certainly wasn't informed until this morning.

I'll write this in big letters for the full time release reps who appear not to quite understand the principle.

Its not an agreement if only Managers and Reps discussed it.

Its an agreement when WE the membership endorse it.

It is a lovely theory but impractical.
The (area) manager says to the (area) rep:
We expect day Y to be very light and your members will be finishing early but rather than hold them to their time as we are entitled to do, we want 40 minutes extra on day X to compensate.
Now it would be lovely for the area rep to visit every office and hold a vote with every union member in attendance but that isn't going to happen. Space time and distance and all that.
So he has to make a judgement call and like you said earlier in the thread - most would take an early finish on day Y.
Never let the hand you hold, hold you down.
