office transfer

hi, if a postie wants a transfer to another office & that office has a vacancy can the dom stop it & say no you cannot move?
I was always under the impression that a transfer is something that must happen if the postie wants it & there is a vacancy in the office he/she wants to move to?

I'm only going on my own experience but trying to get a transfer was a major headache.There was a vacancy in another office and even though the transfer was agreed it still took me over 7 months before I was released to the other.
It pretty much seemed to me you are at the mercy of the office your at and if they don't want to let you go they won't.
I spoke to the DOM of the office I wanted to transfer to and got things done that way,but like I said if you've got a manager that won't let you go they can make it very difficult.

Supposed to happen within 28 days of transfer being accepted. Dom doesn't have a say but will try their very best to delay it. After the 28 days you have to contact recruitment team and report him/her. Should happen quickly after that.

Having done the obvious: Step 1: Have a quick chat to inform your Unit Rep......Then jump straight to Step 2: Inform your Area Rep that there's a vacancy in another unit, you've applied for it, the "New" Dom wants you/needs you and your "Old" Dom is dragging his heels and won't let you transfer.

Hopefully he'll fight your corner for you. You'll get no help from your "Old" DOM because he's going to be a Postie down! Tough Shite for him! Good Luck with your transfer.

Have you applied on-line. I got a transfer, didn't even ask my Dom as I knew what his answer would've been. Unless they've changed something recently there's not a thing you're Dom can do about it.

I'd presumed that you'd applied on-line. As Newbie says that's the first step. Just because you want to move doesn't make it so. I could understand everyone saying, "No Way".

However IF there's a vacancy on-line and you've applied then IF you're excepted (there's various criteria, for example does anyone else live closer) then the clock start ticking and there's only so long your "Old" DOM can hang onto you.

How far are you down the Transfer route?

It seems that most - if not all - of the online vacancies are part time : does that mean a full timer would have to reduce his/her hours in order to get the transfer?

If your a good worker who wants to transfer then management will initially fob you off with a reduced hourly contract. Its not helped by the fact that most jobs online in delivery are Part-time as well.


Best bet then is to find someone who wants to transfer to your office and/or do your round and just do a like-for like swap. Im sure its all perfectly legal because the only reason that is really stopping the transfer taking place is your DOM - because he/she is a man down.....
