Christmas Casuals

Every year they tell us how many casuals are taken on in the mail centres, this year apparently its 19000, so why cant we have some where they are needed, on delivery!
We are snowed under with packets and a few more bodies would make a difference but instead they all go to mail centres why?

Apparently it's all going to be ok because leave stops next week and then we will have loads of staff! We're not having packet drivers apparently. Until the backlog gets too big and they panic!

a former DIM in our office has allowed two rural posties next week off!!!

a few new starters but they can only do HCT walks as they have not had their changeovers yet!!!

was supposed to have three hire vans, two got cancelled and one RM van is in the garage ( with no replacement )

but then Christmas only comes every year so it's no surprise the Bosses don't know how to sort it

because RM solution to christmas pressure is - postmen will complete on overtime. Such an arrogant attitude that they think that people will give up their own time, fair enough some people want to do it, but where are the managers in October and November going around asking each postie if theyre likely to stay out and complete and then organise extra temporary staffing based on that ?

Oh I miss those casuals....... wandering around in their jeans with just a Royal Mail Hi-Vis on. Some of the tricks they used to get up to would make you laugh. Best one we had was when the guy came came back early and said, "All Done" and disappeared. When the Bag Drop guy went out the following week to drop the bags of in the Big Grey Boxes (Old School) Surprise Surprise..... The Casual had simply stuffed all his Full Mail Bags in the Boxes and buggered off!

Almost as amusing as the Casual that had his Bags prepped for him and then delivered each bundle through the door of the address on the top of the bundle! No wonder he got round so quickly. Ha Ha Oh how we laughed!

Just goes to show this job isn't as Easy as some people would have you believe. And not every idiot can just walk in off the street and do it....We've proved they can't!

Woring as a Christmas casual but there not been much work and we keep getting sent home and not getting paid.. On our Christmas casual worker terms of engagement book we signed it says..* I hereby consent to work to in excess of 48 hours on average per week during any period of engagement under this casual worker contract with Royal Mail...

what you signed is an optional agreement to work over the EU regulated 48 hours. Im pretty sure that cant be a term of employment, so if it was sold to you as mandatory they lied to you or broke EU employment law.
