I was put on a walk today which was basically all of the absorption in our DO.
I did it on Monday started 9.30 finished 2.30 and completed - it was a light day.
Today i started at 9.30 and at 2.30 i could go no further and left at least 1hrs work.
I had no idea i would not be able to complete it so Dom was not informed.
Will i get into trouble tomorrow for bringing work back?
I walked for 5hrs non-stop and i guesstimate it would take another 1hr at least to complete.
Surely i cant be expected to walk 6hrs non stop.
I have been at DO for just over 3months and have completed every other walk i have been on.
Is a absorption walk an actual walk?

Re: Impossible Walk
You could get into trouble for this because you should have followed the cut off procedure as it has mentioned in here many times, if u can't or won't manage it in time, inform your manager and leave it in office or if out on delivery and can't manage contact Dom at earliest opportunity to say u can't complete

Re: Impossible Walk
Depend on you're Dom really. You're best bet is to say you where unaware of any cut off procedure or maybe forgot you're phone. Like most offices where training is non-existent I doubt anyone bothered to explain to you what the cut off procedure is, or even how to phone with you're PDA. Slapped wrist should be likely outcome for first offence.

You could always say you tried to get in touch but had no credit on your phone and no money for a phone box

Re: Impossible Walk
Who to get in touch with if management go home by 11am??
I was never informed about the over running procedure, not by management or union.
Also i dont believe its physically possible to walk for 6hrs non stop.
Last week a PT postie left the job after being on this walk, he was trained on it with other postie and took the both of them 4hrs to complete. i will state that i was never informed of over running procedure, also as this is the second time on walk, first being an easy day i had no idea if i was going to not complete, also i will continue on walk if asked but will make sure that Dom knows that i will most probably not complete, 5hrs walking is enough for me, 6hrs is too much.

Or just say you won't use your personal phone to make work related calls.

Re: Impossible Walk
I did the walk again but this time i asked dom what i should do - do you want me to do walk but bring some back, or do i take out what i think is manageable and leave rest for someone else?
I told him what i could manage and thats what i took out.
Very reasonable dom, he knows im a good worker but its honestly too much work for one person.
Funny thing was he told me that so and so can do it in such and such a time, thats good i said but im not going to rush about and damage my knees going up and down stairs all day.
Next day i did another walk and following day i was back on stairs walk and dom said to me - so and so finished yesterday at such a such a time on stairs walk.
Later when i went to prep walk i realized how - he had brought back chunks of it!!
With a smile i went to dom and said - now i know how walk was done in such a such a time, he looked surprised!!
